Overview

After pick-up in Bergen, we start the journey to the village of Gudvangen, and on the way we make a stop at Tvinde Waterfall where you can walk right up to the foot of the large waterfall.

In Gudvangen you will experience a guided tour of Njardaheimr Viking Village and learn about the life in the Viking age.

Then we board the electric ship “Future of the Fjords” on a premium fjord cruise to Flåm. The Unesco World Heritage site Nærøyfjord is surrounded by high mountains and is a beautiful sight both in summer and winter.

From Flåm, the trip continues with the dramatic and world-famous Flåm Railway which is one of the world's steepest railways. The 20-km train journey gives you a panoramic view of some of the wildest and most magnificent of Norwegian mountain nature, including the famous Kjosfossen waterfall. At Myrdal station, a train changes to the Bergen Railway which takes you to Voss where you are picked up and the car will take you back to Bergen.

Voss Municipality
  • 15m
Voss is a municipality in Vestland county. The administrative centre is the village of Vossevangen. Voss is surrounded by snow-capped mountains, forests, lakes and fast-flowing whitewater rivers. This has led to its development as a notable centre of skiing, watersport, skydiving, paragliding and other adventure sports. Every year in the last week of June the area hosts the Ekstremsportveko (Extreme Sports Week), which is regarded as the world's premier extreme sport festival. Bømoen, the local airstrip, is home to Skydive Voss, one of the largest dropzones in Norway, as well as a gliding club. The rivers provide various levels of white water, attracting kayaking, rafting and river boarding. Kite surfing and para-bungee may be seen on lake Vangsvatnet. The ski area, to the north of the town, is accessible via a cable car, Voss Gondol.

Gudvangen, by Nærøyfjord, is known as "the place of the Gods". Nærøyfjord is dedicated to Njord, the God of trading and sailing. In the Viking village of Njardarheimr, you will experience an a village that shows how the Vikings lived 1,000 years ago, when Gudvangen got its name. These are not actors in costumes, but "real" Vikings of all ages, who adopt the Viking Age as a lifestyle. They know their history and have unique knowledge about the Viking life, which they would love to share with you!

The river Nærøydalselvi flows down the valley Nærøydalen into the fjord at the village of Gudvangen. Since 2005, the Nærøyfjord has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and it has also been rated by National Graphic Society as the world's number one natural heritage site.
Aurlandsfjord
  • 1m
The Aurlandsfjord flows through the municipalities of Auland, Vik and Lærdal. The 29-kilometre (18 mi) long fjord is a branch off of the main Sognefjorden, Norway's longest fjord. The fjord is deep and narrow, reaching a depth of about 962 metres (3,156 ft) and its width is generally less than 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) wide. About 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) south of the mouth of the fjord, the Nærøyfjord branches off from it to the west. The village of Flåm sits at the innermost part of the Aurlandsfjord; other villages along the fjord are Aurlandsvangen and Undredal. Most of the fjord is surrounded by up to 1,800-metre (5,900 ft) tall, steep mountains with little habitation along the fjord except for in a few small valleys.
Flåmsbana
  • 1h
  • Admission ticket included
The Flåm Railway may be one of the most scenic and beautiful train rides in the world, and has become more and more popular over the years. Tourists from all over the world visit Norway to experience Flåm Railway. The 20.2-kilometer (12.6 mi) long railway line runs between Flåm and Myrdal , through the valley of Flåmsdalen and connects the Bergen Railway with Sognefjorden. The line's elevation difference is 866 metres (2,841 ft); it has ten stations, twenty tunnels and one bridge. The maximum gradient is 5.5 percent (1:18). Because of its steep gradient and picturesque nature, the Flåm Line is now almost exclusively a tourist service and has become the third-most visited tourist attraction in Norway. Construction of the line started in 1924, with the line opening in 1940. It allowed the district of Sogn access to Bergen and Oslo via the Bergen Line. Electric traction was taken into use in 1944.

  • Admission ticket included

Our guide Arne is an exceptional communicator. He picked us up promptly outside of our lodging & drove us to Voss to stop & admire the lake. Then on through the mountains to catch the Flam railway which took us on a beautiful approx 1 hour mountain tour ending in Flam where we met back up with Arne & he escorted us to the amazing electric boat for a 2-hour fjord tour. Absolutely spectacular views! Arne ensured we knew exactly what to do at all times & that we had tickets & knew where to meet him after each segment. Arne also took some cool videos with his drone. He sent us all the vids/pics he took. He went above & beyond to ensure we also had a lot of links to information about the area & also gave us a lot of restaurant recommendations. He even made sure to educate us on how to take the light rail back to the airport when we left & contacted us to make sure we got there. Having the private tour kept us out of the tourist crowds & on our own schedule. It is worth the extra money! Pro tip: recommend getting breakfast/coffee to take with you for the ride to catch the Flam railway. This is an all day tour & you can get food on the boat but that’s much later in the day & would suffice for lunch not breakfast.

Arne was our guide. He was very informative. He provided details along the way from place to place. He was able to tell us of upcoming sites as we were going through the fjord. It was an excellent experience. He used WhatsApp to communicate, so make sure you have it on your phone. He also provided us with pictures and videos taken from his drone, creating memories for a lifetime. Thank you Arne!!

Our tour guide Arne picked us up at our hotel on schedule, the vehicle being a people carrier which afforded better views of the countryside and access in/out of the vehicle was extremely easy. On meeting him he immediately outlined our plans for the day and explained that he had decided to change the tour schedule to go in an anti-clockwise direction as it would ensure encountering less sightseers, a decision that was to prove excellent. Our guide’s attention to detail was extremely thorough and whilst it was a comparatively long day he ensured that we kept to schedule without being rushed. He did not accompany us on the part of the tour that involved trains and boat trip on the Fjord however he tracked our progress constantly by use of GPS and messaged us on what sights to look out for, which side of the boat/train to sit on to get the best possible experience from the tour. All in all an excellent day.

In the late 1990s I worked with a tour company that booked tours in Italy and Norway for travel agent’s clients. One popular tour, I always wanted to take myself, was the Flam railway. This August my husband and I, now in our 80s, booked a cruise from Bergen to NYC with a two night stay in Bergen prior. We booked the Private guided Flam day tour including the Naeroyfjord Cruise and the Flam Railway. Michael, our guide for the day, arrived at our Bergen hotel at 8am and drove us to Voss for the two trains to Flam where he met us and drove, mainly through a several mile long tunnel, to Gudvangen to catch the tour boat to Flam where he again met us and drove us back to the hotel in Bergen. It was a very long driving day for Michael. He was “the best”. A very considerate and mindful driver. We thank him so much for a wonderful day and fulling my long hoped for tour.
