This tour involves moderate walking on uneven natural terrain, including coastal paths and an optional shallow stream crossing at Gljúfrabúi. It is not recommended for guests with serious mobility limitations.
Strong coastal winds and ocean spray are common at several stops - appropriate clothing and footwear are essential.
Children of all ages are welcome - the tour is family-friendly.
Parents or guardians are responsible for the safety of children throughout the tour, particularly at coastal stops, cliff viewpoints, and at Reynisfjara beach.
This is one of Iceland's longest day touring routes. The full day typically runs 13-15 hours - plan accordingly.
Ocean waves at Reynisfjara can be sudden and powerful. Always stay behind the safety markers on the beach.
The path behind Seljalandsfoss may be closed in winter due to ice. Your guide will advise on the day.

Activity itinerary

Reykjavik (Pass by)

Your adventure begins in Reykjavik as you leave the city behind and travel along the famous south coast of Iceland. The scenery quickly changes from colourful houses and urban streets to open farmland, lava fields, and distant glaciers.

Skogafoss

The first major highlight of the journey is Skogafoss Waterfall. This powerful waterfall drops from high cliffs that were once the coastline of Iceland thousands of years ago. As the water crashes down, mist rises into the air and often creates beautiful rainbows on sunny days. Visitors can walk close to the base of the waterfall or climb the stairs beside it for an incredible view from above.

Solheimajokull Glacier

Continuing east, the tour reaches Solheimajokull Glacier, one of the most accessible glaciers in Iceland. Here you will see massive ice formations mixed with black volcanic ash from past eruptions. The glacier slowly moves towards the ocean, constantly changing shape and creating dramatic textures and deep crevasses.

Dyrholaey

Next you visit the dramatic Dyrholaey viewpoint. From this cliff top location you can see sweeping views of the south coast, black sand beaches, and powerful Atlantic waves crashing against the shoreline. The famous rock arch rising from the ocean makes this location one of the most photographed spots in the region.

Reynisfjara Beach

Before reaching Vik, a short stop is made at the famous Reynisfjara. From the parking area you can admire the dramatic black volcanic sand, powerful Atlantic waves, and the impressive basalt columns rising along the cliffs. In the distance, the legendary Reynisdrangar sea stacks rise from the ocean, creating one of the most iconic coastal views in Iceland.

Glacier Lagoon

From Vik the drive continues across vast volcanic plains and glacial rivers towards one of the most spectacular natural wonders in Iceland. Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon is filled with floating icebergs that break away from a nearby glacier. These ice formations slowly drift across the lagoon before reaching the ocean, creating an unforgettable landscape of ice and water.

Diamond Beach Jokulsarlon

Just across the road from the lagoon lies Diamond Beach. Here pieces of clear glacial ice wash onto the black sand beach. The sunlight reflects through the ice making it sparkle like diamonds scattered along the shore.

Seljalandsfoss

On the return journey you stop at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, one of the most unique waterfalls in Iceland. A path allows visitors to walk behind the waterfall and experience the powerful cascade from a completely different perspective.

Gljufrabui Waterfalls

Only a short walk away is the hidden waterfall of Gljufrabui. This beautiful waterfall is tucked inside a narrow canyon and is often missed by many visitors. Passing through the rocky opening reveals a magical scene where water falls into a moss covered gorge.

Vik

The journey continues to the small coastal village of Vik. Surrounded by mountains and black sand beaches, Vik offers stunning views of the sea stacks rising from the ocean just offshore. It is a perfect place to stretch your legs and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Icelandic coastal life.

Reykjavik (Pass by)

After a full day exploring glaciers, waterfalls, and black sand beaches along the south coast, we return to Reykjavik where you will be dropped off at your selected location.
