Experience an unforgettable encounter with marine wildlife while snorkelling near playful sea lions in the crystal-clear waters of Patagonia.
This unique experience will take you to the Punta Loma Nature Reserve, home to a permanent colony of South American sea lions (Otaria flavescens), located near Puerto Madryn.
The activity is designed based on principles of responsible wildlife observation and respect for the animals' natural behaviour. You will enter the water and observe the sea lions, maintaining a respectful distance, without chasing, touching, feeding, or taking any action that might disturb them. The sea lions are free to approach or move away at any time, allowing the encounter to unfold naturally and on their own terms. Enjoy the opportunity to observe these fascinating marine animals in their natural habitat, following guidelines that prioritise their well-being and the conservation of their environment.
Your journey begins at the dive centre, where you'll be fitted with a 7mm wetsuit and receive a comprehensive safety briefing. Then, board a boat for a scenic 20-25 minute ride along the coast to the protected reserve. As you approach the colony during high tide, you'll witness hundreds of sea lions entering the water—the perfect moment for interaction.
Once in the water, your certified instructor will guide you as curious sea lions approach naturally, swimming circles around you and showcasing their incredible agility. The experience is safe, controlled, and supervised by provincial wildlife rangers who protect this special ecosystem. Optional photo and video services are available to capture your once-in-a-lifetime memories.
This activity is accessible to everyone—no prior snorkelling experience or swimming ability required. As the only centre in the area that welcomes people with disabilities, we're committed to making this incredible wildlife experience inclusive for all. Children from 8 years old are welcome, making it perfect for families seeking an authentic Patagonian wildlife adventure.
