What you can expect

Your experience begins at the meeting point near Henrietta, where you are welcomed by certified canyoning guides who provide a full safety briefing and equipment fitting. Harnessed and prepared, you set off towards the canyon entrance, surrounded by dense tropical vegetation and the distant sound of rushing water. As you step into the gorge, the environment immediately transforms into a dramatic natural world of basalt rock walls, cascading streams, and hidden pools formed over centuries of flowing water.

The adventure begins with your first abseil, a controlled descent down a smooth rock face beside a flowing waterfall. The sensation of water spraying around you as you lower yourself into the canyon sets the tone for the day. After regrouping at the base, you continue deeper into the gorge, alternating between hiking over natural rock formations and swimming through crystal-clear pools carved into the canyon floor.

As the canyon opens up, you reach one of the highlights of the experience: a breathtaking 40-metre waterfall descent. Here, your guide secures your equipment and explains each step carefully before you begin your controlled abseil down the roaring cascade. Midway through the descent, you are surrounded by mist, lush greenery, and echoing water, creating a truly immersive natural moment. Once safely at the bottom, you can pause to absorb the beauty of the hidden amphitheatre-like canyon.

The journey continues with a series of smaller waterfalls, playful slides over smooth rocks, and refreshing swims in natural basins. For those seeking more thrill, optional cliff jumps are available into deep, clear pools, offering an exhilarating burst of adrenaline in a safe, guided environment. Each section of the canyon brings a new rhythm—sometimes calm and reflective, sometimes fast-paced and adventurous.

As you progress further, the terrain becomes more technical, leading to a final and dramatic descent of approximately 20 metres. From this vantage point, you are rewarded with sweeping views over the canyon walls and surrounding greenery, highlighting the raw volcanic beauty of Mauritius. Your guides remain close throughout, ensuring safety while sharing insights into the island’s unique geology, biodiversity, and conservation efforts that protect this fragile ecosystem.

After completing the descent, you exit the canyon feeling both energised and accomplished. The return walk offers a final chance to appreciate the lush surroundings before you are transferred back, marking the end of a truly immersive half-day adventure that combines adrenaline, nature, and discovery in one unforgettable experience.
