Takachiho Gorge

The walking trail remains free even if you choose not to take a boat.

Mt. Nakadake

Mount Naka-dake is the most active crater of the Mount Aso volcanic group and one of the few places in Japan where visitors can get close to an active volcano. Located within the vast Aso Caldera, Naka-dake features a dramatic crater with a striking emerald-green acidic lake at its centre, often surrounded by steaming vents and volcanic smoke that highlight the raw power of nature. Depending on volcanic activity levels, visitors may walk near the crater rim to witness the rugged landscape and feel the energy of this dynamic geological site.
