Begin your journey by venturing away from the city centre to the foothills of the Qinling Mountains to visit the Guanzhong Folk Art Museum. Located in the ancient town of Wutai in Chang’an District, Xi’an, this complex integrates cultural initiatives and industries focused on the rescue, preservation, collection, research, and exhibition of folk cultural heritage.
Explore the museum's collection of folk artefacts from throughout history, such as furniture, lamps, New Year’s paintings, and brick carvings. Among the highlights are several ancient structures—including traditional residences, opera stages, shops, and gate towers—that have been relocated and reconstructed from the Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as thousands of stone horse-tethering posts.
These posts, typically over a metre tall, are carved with patterns of animals and figures. These posts were collected from various parts of Shaanxi and are mostly relics from the Qing Dynasty. With their diverse forms, they all exude a sense of historical grandeur.
Get up close to and touch cultural relics and architectural structures from China’s ancient Ming and Qing dynasties, and experience various traditional folk arts (calligraphy, woodblock printing, paper cutting, shadow puppetry, sachet making, and more).
In the afternoon, return to the city centre and visit the Yongxingfang food street to sample a variety of Xi’an speciality snacks, after which the tour concludes.
