GREAT stay after initial concerns.

Location: The location was good for us, as we always explore the local area to get acquainted with the locals and the culture. The main issues for us was fumes.

We were initially concerned about the Hilton due to its age and appearance. We were moved to 3 rooms on arrival as the 1st had a bad view and the 2nd was too close to a service lift that was being refurbed. The staff could not do enough for us and moved us without fuss, the 3rd room was excellent, clean, comfortable and roomy. The hotel had everything we needed food, shops and super leisure facilities, a great base for our day trips around Addis.

Return Visit - Disappointing

2nd time we have stayed at this hotel & we were given a garden room, The further we walked towards this annex the more it felt like a run down inner city estate. The room was as we feared. On opening the door, we were met with that musty, aged smell akin to a second hand book shop. An instant decision was that we were not staying in this room. Straight back to Reception & the key was handed back with a firm "No thank you". Within 10 minutes an alternate room was offered in the main building, which was gratefully accepted. This room was considerably better, though the bathroom was in a particularly ropey state, however, it was just about ok. Generally the hotel was as expected, nothing special but alright ..... think 2*. Room service food is to be avoided or at the very least don't expect much! First night we ordered food, when delivered, it was just warm and had the appearance that it had been microwaved some time before being brought up. Comments were passed to the hotel. Second time was better (the previous sad experience was mentioned when ordering). On the last night we tried again....this time it was not properly cooked..... Be warned! We would recommend this hotel but only because the choice in Addis is, to say the least, extremely limited. Having stayed at the Sheraton & found that to be ridiculously expensive for what you get (hotel looks nice on the outside but the rest is quite average), yes, the Hilton is quite shabby, run down & overpriced & the room service food is simply dreadful but there are nice bits too...the garden, the pool and the wonderful staff.

Long Weekend

In line with all other reviews I've seen, I have to agree & confirm that, yes, this hotel requires a good dose of modernising. The general impression around the hotel is that it varies between looking a bit tired to downright scruffy. The room was nice & clean, the towels & bedding were fine but the bathroom was a bit nasty. Dark, looked like it could have done with a good scrub & the marble basin surround had huge cracks in it that had a bit of filler applied sometime in the last 20 years. The food I have to say is far, far better in both quality and price than I experienced at the Sheraton recently. In the evening, the atmosphere is great. Because the prices are extremely reasonable, this brings in the local after work crowd & it makes for a really enjoyable night. Finally to the staff. Superb! I really don't want to criticise them at all but, perhaps, a little bit of training wouldn't go amiss in certain areas. You would find it hard to come across a more pleasant, friendly and eager to please bunch anywhere in the world, they are a credit to the hotel and are likely one of the main reasons that makes it a lovely place to stay. It will never be a five star hotel, in fact, I think that 4 stars is really pushing it a bit. 3 max in my humble opinion BUT there is the garden & the pool, so that is likely what they sell it on. And the garden bar is a great place in the evening. The local band they had on was super. Is the hotel worth the price of the room? Absolutely not. Will I go again? Definately yes!

shabby hotel hidden taxes

Poor experience. Staff aggressive at reception and in dining room. Internet in rooms faulty wall sockets despite multiple payments. WiFi charged for as an extra. Cockroach in bedroom drawer. Dirty bathroom

Wir waren drei Wochen im Hotel Hilton über Weihnachten und Neujahr. Die Preise waren 5-sternemässig, aber der Zustand des Hotels leider nur 3-sternemässig. Die Angestellten waren sehr freundlich und sehr hilfsbereit, einfach super. Der Pool und die Umgebung um den Pool war auch sehr gut. Leider wurde der Pool in der letzten Dezemberwoche für vier Tage gereinigt, in der absoluten Hochsaison und für diese Zeit konnte die ganze Poolanlage auch mit den Liegeplätzen nicht genutzt werden. Von den drei Liften funktionieren nur noch zwei. Die Bedienknöpfe ausserhalb der Lifte funktionieren auf verschiedenen Etagen nur zur Hälfte, oder teilweise und zeitweise überhaupt nicht mehr. Die Zimmer sind sehr veraltet, die Bäder sind komplett veraltet und haben auch keine funktionierende Lüftung, einmal da hatten wir für mehrere Stunden überhaupt kein Wasser mehr im Bad. Auf das hin konnten wir aber das Zimmer wechseln. Der Kühlschrank und der Schreibtisch sind auch aus den Anfängen dieses Hotels. Der Saunabereich ist auch nicht wirklich einladend, ist sehr schmuddelig. Die Minigolfanlage ist grundsätzlich in einem schönen Park eingebettet, jedoch ist die Anlage nicht wirklich bespielbar, da die meisten Bahnen sandig sind. Beim Restaurant Gazebo neben dem Pool haben wir viermal gegessen und hatten davon zweimal eine ganz böse Magen- und Darmverstimmung gehabt, so nach dem Motto, oben raus und unten raus. Uns wurde von Einheimischen erzählt, dass wir beim Ausschecken die Abrechnung kontrollier

Service incroyable! Gentillesse et disponibilité du personnel. Nourriture de très bonne qualité. Chambre parfaitement et régulièrement entretenue. Top au niveau des installations: fitness, piscine, bars etc...! Vraiment l’hôtel que je connaissais étant petit. Excellent rapport qualité prix!
