Beautiful location and very friendly, attentive staff. Food was what we expected, loved the pools, water park and proximity to the beach. Was also nice there were excursions that left from the RIU private beach. The only thing we didn't like is no reservations for dinner. They say no line for restaurants, just show up. This is not true. One night we showed up for dinner at 7 p.m. and not one restaurant could accommodate our party of 3. They explained that you must show up before the restaurants open in order to get a table. This meant we had to wrap up our excursion or timr on the beach or pool, get ready for dinner and be in line no later than 5:30 p.m. We won't be back for that reason alone.

The food was horrible and it’s not easy to get into town to eat something with flavor. They charge for the shuttle service to Coco and it only goes a few times a day. One of our rooms also had a ceiling leak and it smelled like mold.

We booked for double junior ocean view suite but they gave us king bed for 4 people, then switched room but wasnt ocean view. Rooms are very outdated. We had ants and we complianed twice. Last day Coach roache was there between screen door and slding glass door. We had to keep asking for towel, only provided three and we have four guest. Overall the resorted is outdated including outside. No proper beach acces, have to walk thru vendors selling items. Can keep going on but worst all inclusive experience.

Room was missing blankets and towels Cleaners were very noisy in hallways Restaurant staff are not as friendly Maid opens door even when sign is on Room door opens into washroom which has no door Not welcomed into hotel Not thanked for staying with them… simply no courtesy Not told where to find excursions Transportation is super expensive No fruit juice available after breakfast (waiters even tried the bars) Disappointed. Definitely not a 5 star hotel. Will not recommend this RIU hotel.

The staff is amazing. They are cleaning non-stop and are super friendly. The hotel needs to upgrade the rooms and offer better wifi.

Our stay at Hotel Riu Palace Costa Rica was amazing and just what we needed from a vacation. The hotel grounds and rooms were clean and comfortable. The amenities were great and there was plenty to do during our stay. The kids club during the day and night were memorable for our young one. And having access to the water park was perfect.

This is a 3 star property per American standard however it is advertised as 4+ on Expedia. I had no specific complaints but overall property needs some renovation. The road leading to hotel is awful and had lot of potholes and rough patches. Food quality was overall good/above average as compared to rooms. There is no wildlife around hotel and also beach is a brown sand beach and not very picturesque. Pools are good though.

We couldn't venture beyond the property on our own because the street beyond the resort has too many potholes. Even the cars had a hard time driving on the roads

I absolutely love Costa Rica Unfortunately the Riu wasn’t what we were hoping for. The staff was great. Very pleasant and apologetic. First there is a lingering smell of sewage that surrounded the property. Our room, the halls and walkways. The buffet food was such poor quality. Cold food, undercooked items. Breakfast was the only thing edible because we ate omelets everyday. The way you get to eat at the restaurants is ridiculous!! They have 4 restaurants that are on a first come first serve basis. It’s starts at 5:45pm each night. They can only serve 120 people each night. If you aren’t ready and waiting at 5:45 pm you will NOT get in!! It’s crazy!! They need another system. The alcoholic drinks are so weak. They taste like overly sweet juice. It was definitely disappointing.

The Hotel is so big that it gives you the opportunity to burn calories. Always clean, everywhere smells good. The only thing was the Wi-Fi, you have to log in again in different places (maybe because its location is between the mountains) & also the TV cable doesn’t work by 1:00 AM. Anyway, me & my Family enjoyed our stay. We also there was nobody to give us the welcome drink at the lobby when we got there. After all, Riu Palace Costa Rica is highly recommended.
