A Christmas vacation

Good location. It was 1 minute walk to the metro station and right next to the markets which was great for some extra exploring outside of the central city. The door man and the breakfast crew were lovely! We had couple of issues with things in the room but the maintenance man fixed them immediately. Minus some thin walls, and our unlucky moment of having a noisy family down the hall, it was a good hotel with a good breakfast spread. No internet in the room.

Fantastic personal service

Fantastic the staff couldn't have done more to make my stay do enjoyable. And to cap it off I left my credit card behind and a member of staff chased my taxi for 30 minutes to return it to me. What more can I say!

No need for an alarm clock!

We stayed at the Citin for four nights in February. We choose the Citin as it represented good value for money and a central location to explore KL. The hotel is easily located to Masjid Jamek station, and can be reached in under 5 minutes. The entrance was a little difficult to find and involves navigating your way through a busy marketplace which lines its doorstep. Actually to get to the front entrance you have to walk through someone's stall. Our room was large and clean, we stayed on the 2nd floor which overlooked the market. This in itself provided no problems and there was very little noise that could be heard. At night, the market was closed. However, come 6am in the morning we were woken by the sound of the call of prayer from the local mosque. Although we were expecting this, we weren't prepared for how long it would last (30 mins) and how loud it would be. Obviously this is nobody's fault and can't really be helped, but staying in one of the higher rooms at the back end of the hotel may dampen the sound. After the first night however I actually enjoyed hearing it and found that it added to the experience of our stay in KL. The corridors could also become very noisy at times, with all sorts of voices and footsteps being heard as if they were in the room with us. The staff at the hotel weren't particularly helpful, seemed to have little knowledge of the area and weren't all that bothered in customer service. There is a travel tour booth in the reception of the hotel, we took a tour with them but later found the price to be vastly more than what others were offering, best avoided. What we did like is that there was always one or two security guards on the door greeted us every time we returned. Finally, the hotel is great for exploring Chinatown and Little India both can we reached on foot within ten minutes and is a good choice on a budget.

Masjid Jamek Citin Hotel

As other reviews have stated, the actual Hotel entrance is within the Pasar (Market/Bazaar/Souk), but ask a stall-holder and they will point out the building itself, from which you can gravitate towards the hotel entrance. It's not exactly a hidden entrance, but it IS located behind the market stalls, so it's not easy to see from a distance, although the hotel itself is quite easily spotted from afar.As for the Hotel, it is a reasonably modern and "up to date" hotel, with wi-fi and the typical modern amenities. There is free water for guests on each floor of the hotel, and the Housekeeping staff are very very regular and do a really good job indeed - bedsheets replaced daily, fresh & clean towels daily, too. They were also warm and friendly, too !The hotel does, sadly, suffer from a lack of proper soundproofing, but not to a serious degree. Yes, if other guests are thoughtless and noisy then you can hear them in the corridor. And you will most certainly hear the Azhaan (Islamic call for prayers) each day, but, as a Muslim living in a country where the call to prayer is BANNED, I found it a beautiful thing to be able to hear that !), but, since Azhaan is for, at most, 2-3 mins at a time, 5 times per day, it can hardly be called obtrusive or " a pain/nuisance", as some reviewers have stated. I guess some people are just predisposed to enmity towards Islam/Muslims ? Malaysia IS a Muslim country, after all !!! The breakfast at the hotel was comprised of Tea/Coffee/Orange-Juice/Apple-Juice, toast with Jam or Butter, Pancakes or eggs, if so desired. Not haute-cuisine or anything like it, but nonetheless decent and edible. The hotel location is, in my opinion, what really counts in the Citin Hotel Masjid Jamek's favour. It is not merely centrally located within Kuala Lumpur, but it is within the centre of the city-centre itself ! Find the place where River Gombak and River Klang meet and you will see Masjid (Mosque) Jamek, across from which is located Citin Hotel Masjid Jamek. There is LRT Masjid Jamek station within a stones-throw of the hotel, with very regular(and inexpensive) service ! Truly, the LRT station is within a 2 minute walk from the hotel entrance and through the market and up the stairs. Pleasant staff, great location, good amenities within and also nearby to hotel (find Shahira's Restaurant nearby and order the Mie Goreng Mamak - wowwwww what a meal !), clean and tidy rooms, and also good views of Petronas Towers from a certain side of hotel, all this adds up to a great little hotel which i would thoroughly encourage anyone to stay at. Yes, it is a budget hotel, but not grimy and filled with backpacker student types. The only thing I personally had any issue with was the proximity of the Shower Door and the bathroom sink within 10-20 inches of the shower door. If you are a person with a barrel-shaped body then you may have some squeezing to do to get into/out of the shower in the en-suite bathroom ! Also, ask staff if you can have a room upgrade - they were very hepful with me in this regard, and i cannot thank them enough for their kindness and help !

cheap but cheerful base to explore Kuala

The hotel is very close to the Masjid Jamek station, which is well connected to other parts of Kuala Lumpur and therefore makes the hotel a great base for exploring the city. It is however close to the Masjid Jamek mosque which holds ceremonies throughout the day with very loud music, so light sleepers are forewarned. Also another warning for light sleeper - you can hear your neighbour opening / closing their doors, or people having a conversation in the hallway. But otherwise I thought the rooms were sufficiently soundproofed - i.e. I didn't hear TV or conversations from the next room. The rooms are small but both the bedroom and the bathroom have windows so it's not claustrophobic. The room also comes with a small closet to hang your clothes along with a safe. There is a water cooler on every floor and a water jug in your room for your H2O needs, which I thought was a good touch. There is also free wifi available throughout the building, accessible in your room. It can be slow at times but I found it useable and convenient. Aside from the convenience of public transport, there is also a lively market literally at the doorstep of the hotel. Chinatown and Central Market are also close by. This hotel is great value for money - cheap but clean, cheerful, and conveniently located.
