We really enjoyed our stay here. The hotel is beautiful, with kind and friendly staff who made us feel welcome throughout. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and a thoughtful detail we appreciated was that the staff secured our luggage in our room before our arrival when we had it sent directly from Tokyo. One point of feedback: it would be wonderful to offer cold water in the lobby, especially during the hot and humid seasons. Not only would this be a kind gesture, but it’s also important for guest comfort as they come and go during the day. Another area for improvement is the laundry service. While it’s a convenient amenity, the process felt quite chaotic. With only two 2-in-1 washer/dryer machines available, guests often abused access by monopolizing them, making it difficult for others to use. The machines themselves also seemed worn out and didn’t clean or dry well. A fairer system—such as a waitlist—and upgraded machines would go a long way. In the meantime, I would recommend using a nearby laundromat for better results.

Really enjoyed our stay. The staff were warm and welcoming, and the hotel felt like a peaceful retreat—quiet, beautifully designed, and tucked away just enough from the city’s busyness. This was our third stay at Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Shinmachi Bettei, and it continues to be a favourite. The hotel is beautifully designed, the staff are welcoming, and the location is perfect – quiet, walkable, and full of charm. While the rooms are on the smaller side (as expected in Kyoto), they’re extremely comfortable with excellent lighting and thoughtful layout. I always feel relaxed and at ease here. The public bath is a lovely bonus after a long day exploring. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a peaceful, stylish base in Kyoto.

This was our favorite hotel in Japan! Great location, nice walk to Nishiki Market. It has a traditional and modern vibe to it. It was spacious, clean and staff were friendly and accommodating. Only thing we wish it had was more natural lighting, as the room had frosted glass. Aside from that, this hotel was perfect and we would definitely be returning!

It is a small room in North American standard but during our stay we have not felt it is small. Rather it has all the convience a thoughtful designer would put into a room. The onsite onsen helps a lot (so I did not use ensuite bath room that much for shower). The location was good and the old style facade for buildings along the street always gave us so much to look at. It is really lovely.

Mitsui garden was an excellent hotel for our stay in KYOTO. Good size room with sitting area, very comfortable beds, wonderful bathroom & shower, & even had Netflix!! Staff were all very lovely & accommodating. Area is fantastic with lots of lovely restaurants & cafes near by. Short & interesting walk into shopping district & the Nishiki market. The public bath is amazing, highly recommend!! The laundry facilities were limited with only 2 machines which were always in use. We visited a laundromat near by which worked very well. We would definitely stay again at Mitsui Garden!! Wonderful week in Kyoto!!
