Manuela is a fantastic host, she met us quite late on the night we arrived which was not a problem for her. She made us welcome and explained things to us well, the apartment is compact but beautifully refurbished and a fantastic place to stay as a base for exploring Lisbon.
Just at the top of the road is the little village with supermarkets, restaurants, patisseries, bars and the tram 28 stop - everything you could want just a 5 minute walk up the hill.
There is a wonderful flea market at the other end of the road starting in the square and in the surrounding which we explored on our first day which was a Saturday (I think the only day it is on), it reminded me of Portobello Market in London.
Be prepared to walk to really explore the city, and have comfy shoes for all of the hills, a must is Alfama for some amazing Fado music and wonderful sea food, just a short distance away.
We had an amazing time and we will be back, thanks Manuela for a perfect base for our first trip to Lisbon.
