Upon Angels is a wonderful boutique hotel with creative edgy decor (think Hogarth, Beardsley, burlesque, revue) and fabulous caring staff - front of house, breakfast room and cleaners, but especially Ines on reception. We loved that the staff uniforms continued the vibrant theming. Everyone is welcome from the moment you arrive to the time you leave and there's a great feeling of inclusiveness. The rooms continue the 'naughty' theme and are clean, well equipped (though maybe needs another bedside unit & stool for hair-drying). Beds are very comfortable with high standard linen & pillows. A/C is good and showers excellent. Options for environmentally aware cleaning are available, The breakfast room is small and expect to eat in slots but we had no problems. There's a courtyard area with a large jacuzzi/plunge pool though I didn't use it as I had a chest infection. The hotel stages live entertainment too such as films. Some people have worried about the surrounding area but I can't say we felt threatened, more sad for those less privileged. It's great for public transport though Intendente Metro exits are confusing! Check out nearby Infame for cocktails. Ask reception for restaurant recommendations. We look forward to a second visit!

The hotel itself and staff are very nice. Very comfortable bed, clean, good facilities. Additionally, good location, only 25 minutes from the airport, short distance from the main centre. The only bad thing was presence of the dubious (drugs using) characters that were sitting/sleeping on the pavement opposite the hotel. Even though they kept themselves to themselves but, as a lone traveller, their presence and open drug use, made me feel uncomfortable and unsafe.

The staff were friendly, helpful, and quick to respond—someone came right away when I couldn’t figure out the shower. I appreciated the hotel’s sustainability efforts, like encouraging towel reuse, optional housekeeping, etc. Rooms look exactly like the photos, and it’s easy to request things via QR code or WhatsApp. However, the bathrobes were very small and not practical for most adults. A bigger issue was a recurring sewer smell in the bathroom, even after switching rooms. It seemed to come from a floor drain near the toilet and would come and go throughout the day. The biggest downside was the thin walls. I could clearly hear neighbors—conversations, footsteps, and more—especially on the first night. It was slightly better after moving rooms, but still noticeable. Overall, an okay stay, but the noise and bathroom smell were hard to ignore.

We stayed here for 5 nights and it was absolutely amazing, it was such a cool vibe and the decor throughout was really pretty. The location was great as it was a bit more off the beaten track so was less busy than the city centre, but still only a 10min walk from Alfama the old town and a 25min walk to the city centre. There is also a metro stop 2mins away which gets you to the centre in 15mins. The staff were all so friendly and helpful, always happy to provide recommendations and support in any way they could. Most of our stay we spoke with Ines at reception and she was so lovely! The we had the premium which room was really spacious, with USB plugs so you dont need adapters, plus cultery, crockery, a microwave and a fridge so after a long day out you can happily eat in (there is a big lidl a few mins away and loads of uber eats options). The room also had a balcony overlooking an internal courtyard where the pool is. The courtyard was also a nice place for a cocktail before heading out into town. Would definitely come back to stay here :)

Great Hotel

Fantastic stay made better with possibly the friendliest staff I’ve had at a hotel, they are happy to help with recommendations for restaurants, so please make sure you do this if unsure. Location of Upon is good to use as a base to get around - you have a supermarket within a 5 minute walk. Rooms are clean, tidy, spacious, certainly needed when you are going as couple. Bathroom is a good size too. Overall enjoyed our stay and will happily come back again. 5 stars across the board!

What a great hotel! My partner and I stayed here for his 30th and had a lovely time. The staff were so friendly and helpful and made it a really pleasant stay. My only feedback is the lighting in the room is not great for doing make up!

We reserved our stay thru Expedia from the USA. We arrived finding the staff is very helpful. It was our first visit in Lisbon and we had various questions which they were able to answer. In big hotels you are just a number. Upon Angels is a smaller boutique hotel where you get the all attention you need. The cleanliness in our room & bathroom was absolutely remarkable!! We had breakfast in house and were impressed with the variety and quality of the breakfast buffet! We'll be happy to refer any friends or family to Upon Angels Hotel.

The decor was amazing. The staff was always on site for you. There were VERY noisey Canadian guest in the pool upon arrival. Front desk staff took care of them. Outside of it taking 4 request to 3 different staff, we finally got more towles...the following day. Everything else was perfect. We would stay there again for sure. The vibe, decor and amenities are well worth it. The neighbourhood is close to a not so safe area but once in a cab you're fine.

Perfect spot to explore Lisbon from and to relax in style. The bar and hot tub is fantastic and our room was very cool - definitely get one of the rooms with the bath in. Thanks to the staff for making my birthday really special by surprising me with a lovely cake and bottle of bubbles.

A quirky, comfortable hotel with lovely staff. Close to the underground but blissfully just outside the main tourist areas, making it quieter at night. The area it's in is interesting, a mix of faded grandeur and up-and-coming refurbishment. We'd definitely go back.
