We had a little bit of a hard time finding the entrance to the property because it’s was on the side of the building in the alleyway but it was flanked by a Lawsons AND a Sugi Pharamcy (both of which we visited several times during our 4 day stay. The check in is on Floor 2 and staff was very friendly and helpful and quick! Our room was on the 14th floor and I selected a corner room with the hope it would be spacious enough for three adults. When I opened the door I was relieved that there were three single beds with a small sitting area and a desk and enough space to move around. The bathroom was a good size and the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were great. I appreciated the extra toothbrushes and hairbrushes and mouthwash. My husband and son visited the onsen which they said was small but very clean and nice. The location of the hotel was very close to restaurants and shopping and an entrance to the subway. We checked out early and the hotel held our luggage while we did a last minute visit to the aquarium and when we returned I was happy that housekeeping found my neck fan and reunited it with me before we left for the airport. Getting to the airport was easy. We walked less than ten minutes to Osaka Station and took the Haruka Express to KIX. We even got to ride the Hello Kitty Haruka train. The overall stay was comfortable, pleasant, and convenient to shopping, restaurants, and subway. Hotel was clean The staff was friendly & helpful. Amenities were excellent.

The check in experience was terrible. I booked a room indicating it will accommodate 5 ppl, and I booked a corner room with extra space for additional comfort (therefore higher rate), but was told that only 3 ppl are allowed in the room per hotel policy. I had to get 2 of my family members to book another room at another hotel last minute. Rather than being helpful, they kept asking me to show the itinerary indicating 5 ppl per room or contact Hotels.com to sort it out. After a long flight, I gave up negotiating and looked for another hotel for the 2 family members. The location has abundant choices for hotels, and I would not return to this hotel in the future.

Excellent location in Osaka, just a skip and a jump to buses and trains. Beds and pillows super comfy. Lots of cute little restaurants in the alleys surrounding the hotel. Would recommend booking a room at the back of the hotel rather than front as it’s rather noisy at night due to police sirens and motor bikes. Loved our time in Osaka. Highly recommend

Rooms were small, but reasonably clean. Very basic, but standard for the location. Major problems checking in, as hotel wanted to charge us additional fees for our child (age 11) despite the reservation being for 3 people, and told us the room was only suitable for 2 people, despite it being listed on Expedia as “sleeps 4.” Not sure if it was a problem with the hotel, or Expedia, but check in manager made us wait in the lobby for over an hour (at midnight) and still wasn’t able to get a resolution. I have lost trust now in Expedia because of this, and the had a poor experience at this hotel. Do not recommend. Many other similar options in the area for around the same price. Try something else, and maybe book direct.

Great stay in hotel La frere Monterey

I loved my stay in Osaka at the Monterey property. It was clean and all of the amenities were in the room. The beds were softer but still firm. The pillow was good. Aside from the stopping at the 2nd floor (reception) I couldn’t be happier with my stay. Right next to underground entrance. Next to a great Wagyu place

Great location in Osaka with tons of restaurants and transportation options to get around Osaka or day trips to Kyoto or Himeji. On-site onsen a plus. More laundry needed for a larger hotel, 4 washers and 4 dryers on one floor is not enough but overall a great stay.

I had to pay for an extra room as there was an error in my kids’ ages as being infants rather than 8 and 11. This was unexpected as my original booked room would have accommodated my family of 4 without the additional $550 charge. I will not be using Hotels.com in the future.
