All good ...reception could do with a bit of help .. poor guy could not deal with clients for the phone continually ringing ...and when you called from room again phone just rang and rang ... this is not a criticism of the guy/lady on reception...But something for the management to aware of as reception staff only have one pair of hands ...

Beautiful Grounds, No Lifts, Lots of Stairs

Pros: Location, location, location! We love staying in the countryside, away from big cities and this place rang the bell all the way for us!
Cons: Seriously, put in some lifts! Also, it would be really nice to have a fan on a stand in the room for better air circulation.
Had it not been for the lack of any lifts whatsoever, I would rate this property as a 4.8 out of 5. It's location is truly beautiful and amazing! Set on the upward slopes of a ridge over looking the river Clyde, surrounded by a golf course on one side, and a forest on the other makes this a go-to destination. Although there are LOTS of stairs, if you're not physically impaired it's really not that big of a deal. The swimming pool and spa facility are fantastic! First class all the way. Greatly enjoyed utilizing the pool!!

Really nice hotel

Pros: Friendly, helpful staff. Modern fittings. Good value.
Cons: Staff might be a wee bit more attentive during meals. Offer all visitors tea and coffee at breakfast for example.
Location: It's near Glasgow and you have great views of Dumbarton Castle and the quarries. .
I'd read a few average reviews of this hotel and it nearly put me off coming but I'm so glad I did. I visited with my wife and two children (3 and 9) and every one of us had a fantastic night away. The pool was really nice, the views are great especially if you know the Dumbarton area as I do, and the staff were really nice. We didn't fancy the Vista Restaurant menu but they serve the less fancy daytime menu until 10pm in the bar which was perfect for us and we really enjoyed our meal in there. My wife wasn't overly impressed with the service from the staff throughout our stay (had to visit the bar to order a dessert and no toast or coffee offered at breakfast) but I thought they were all really nice and helpful myself. The building and grounds are modern and well tended, parking is easy and overall I'd say this is one of the best hotels we've ever visited as a family. And it's only 20 minutes away from my house! We WILL be back again!

Lovely rooms and great staff

Pros: Staff in particular are exceptionally good and leisure facilities are spot on.
I stay frequently and always find the rooms to be spotless, the restaurant food excellent and the staff wonderful.

not what you think

the hotel is under going alot on renovations dont be fooled by the fancy pictures still far to go! woken up to a glazier fitting windows and kept up by a party! the "hotel" could have least informed the guests of the function or even apologised in advance... poor communication.

Non highlight of the week

Infuriatingly disjointed layout with reception miles away from room Disappointing level of communication from staff who although pleasant were massively understaffed Breakfast was wonderfull A hotel like this should command the money asked quite easily and not be subject of disallusionment over price paid

Ensure you do not get an adjoining room !!

Pros: Once moved, room was lovely
Cons: Wifi very poor - keeps dropping off Room phone broken
A lot of refurbishment going on here No proper bar facility available Room was so noisy, I had to request a move .. adjoining room had a large barking dog, a screaming child and parents having a domestic !! Would not return, even though staff did move me to a nice, quiet room
