Great hotel. Loved staying here! The unlimited bar is a great touch to the stay. Parking was the only issue. It was either park on the sides of the rode and risk a ticket (which we got for $150) or park in a garage nearby and pay hourly parking. Another down side is the hot water. It was either super cold or WAY to hot there was no getting it in between. Keep in mind it is a very old building. Other then that the service was GREAT! the stay other then showering was amazing.

My wife and I went on a cruise. We arrived in San Juan a day before, and El Colonial is one of the best places to stay since it's only a 10-minute walk to the Royal Caribbean cruise port. It is also conveniently located in Old San Juan. Our room was comfortable and the air conditioning works well. There's also a bar in the lobby where you can enjoy complimentary alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The staff member who checked us in was friendly and even helped us carry our luggage upstairs to the 4th floor. I apologize, as I forgot his name. Just keep in mind that the hotel doesn't have an elevator, but like I said, they will offer to help you carry it up. Overall, the hotel is highly recommendable if you're going on a cruise at a nearby pier.

Clean space. Staff was AMAZING. The hotel communication both before arrival and during my stay was fantastic. Stocked complimentary bar was a nice bonus. Room was spacious but clearly in a historic building. If you are looking for a polished space, this isn't it, but if you are looking for reasonably priced in a great area, then you have found it. Would stay here again.

Keep in mind this building is over 200 years old. The water was really cold however the staff was soo pleasant and the free open bar was a added touch. You are literally in the middle of San Juan so we were able to walk around and explore. I highly recommend this place if you can oversee the age.
