We have used VRBO and its predecessor HomeAway for years and never had a bad experience until now. The advertised photographs are very flattering. The apartment was run down with strong drainage smell, the walls were dirty (I have taken photos) and all furniture, fixtures and fittings in need of upgrading. The balcony was tiny, with two stained chairs, a mop and bucket. The pool was nice but surrounded by concrete and no sunbeds were provided, which meant sunbathing on a towel on hard concrete. We messaged the property manager to ask if they could supply a sun bed but received no reply. The gas canister for the oven hob was empty- it was replaced after we objected to taking the empty canister to a garage ourselves in exchange for a replacement. The cafetière broke when filled with hot water. The reply was “sorry about that”. On our day of arrival, the keys had to be collected from a town a few miles away, which added to cost of taxi transfer. We will not be using VRBO again after this experience unfortunately.
