Usually love stayinv at The Grand, with its great location, parking, and lovely rooms. However this trip was spoilt by my Birthday morning room service breakfast, not arriving, and upon checkout, no apologies or explanation. That said The Grand is still my hotel of choice when in Auckland.

Booked a couple of rooms on a Saturday for a birthday. The rooms were tidy and clean and staff were extra helpful as I’d expect for a 5 star establishment, however: • Wasn’t advised of the room bond when I booked months ago. Other hotels I’ve stayed in haven’t charged this when paying by credit card, rather they’ve taken my credit card details and charged if necessary. I'm fine with paying a bond but not having this clearly outlined was poor. Not sure if this was an issue with Expedia or the details provided by the hotel in Expedia’s listing. • Wasn’t advised that there was a food and beverage allowance for each room when we checked in. Was only told of this on check out when I tried to pay for the items I’d consumed and we were too short on time to use the balance of the allowance before we left. They have offered a credit for the next time stay but I rarely stay in the CBD at all so I’m still waiting on word of where else this can be used e.g. their restaurant. • The person who took my ID on check-in didn’t give it back. The next day I was contacted saying that I was the one who left it there? They were kind enough to post this back to me though which was appreciated. The TV in the room also wasn’t completely functional but like the other 3 points it was a minor inconvenience at the end of the day. Overall for the price and expectations of a 5 star hotel the experience fell a little flat.
