We only stayed one night on our way to St. Louis from St. Paul and I could not have been more impressed with a Courtyard property. The fact that it has a restaurant/bar was the reason I chose it, for convenience, but the food was absolutely amazing and the staff was helpful and so friendly. Our room was spotless, and modern but cosy. I would have happily stayed for days! Great job!!

The hotel had a clean modern feel to it. It was close proximity to the University of Iowa campus / hospital. The room was clean and very nice. Ample space and amenities. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. There was a restaurant on site as well as a Starbucks bistro. The food and service at the restaurant were very good as well.

When we arrived, Security asked what we were doing there and told us we would be towed for parking in the lot. The hotel has two event spaces, and after we checked in, we were told there were two weddings that weekend. We had been given a room near one of the spaces and asked if we could be moved to a room farther away (perhaps giving that room to guests connected to a wedding). We were told we couldn’t change rooms, and if we didn’t like the noise, we could go to a different hotel in another city. The first night, drunk people were yelling near our room until 1:30 a.m. When we called the front desk (from the room phone) to request that the drunk people be asked to quiet down, we were hung up on; when we called back, we were told the drunk people could do whatever they wanted because they were with a wedding. About 15 minutes later, the front desk called my work number, which I did not give them and which is automatically forwarded to my cell phone. The next night, different drunk people were yelling by our door at 3AM, but again, nothing could be done for the guests who were not with a wedding and wanted to sleep. We’ve stayed at many Courtyards by Marriott and have always had a great experience, but at this one, we were told they could treat their non-event guests however they wanted because it is independently owned and operated. Book this hotel if you’re Frank the Tank from Old School; stay away if you’re hoping to get a good night’s sleep near the hospital.
