Overall a good stay. Reception staff, brilliant. Gerard must be an absolute standout of standouts; he absolutely makes the whole place unforgettable, by turning the very unassuming bar and small dinner area, into a wonderful fun filled delight, as he walks you through both the history and cocktail menu. The food for dinner was of a very high standard as well. Surprisingly good given the size of the place, and easily comparable, well I'd say better, than some with far more notoriety and price tag up at the Crown for example Unfortunately the breakfast was consistently very poor, Im convinced thats a different chef. Additionally we had to put in a lot of effort to get room service just once on our three night stay. Otherwise I'd have high fived the lot. Oh, and we had the corner view station room, fantastic. Worth a visit for dinner even if you're not staying.

Two night stay in two king rooms with interconnecting doors. Lovely old world lobby with very helpful & welcoming staff at check in. Rooms are a generous size, sound proof & clean. Across the road from Southern Cross train station, easy tram ride to Bourke st mall. Return guests & will stay again.

Disappointing stay at a property that I have stayed at many times previously and always enjoyed. Advised on check-in that there'll be no daily housekeeping (despite this being advertised as a feature of the room) and to call Reception if I require additional towels. Explanation given is that the hotel is in dispute with the cleaning company (?). Positive at check-in however was the staff member who was welcoming and pleasant. Overall condition of the property has dropped since my last stay - in the room I was allocated the bathroom mirror light was not not working, the USB charging port next to the bed was not working, the security peephole in the room door was broken, the floor indicator for the lift was not working (for one lift on level 8), room service was unavailable via the in-room QR code on the Friday night I attempted to use it, the in-room fridge was dirty. Also - Expedia VIP benefit of self-parking not offered at check-in, no interaction or farewell at check-out. Disappointed and will likely not stay here again - which is unfortunate as I have always enjoyed staying here.

Nice art deco hotel with friendly staff. Rooms were well appointed and well decorated. Had no issues with cleanliness and housekeeping was very professional. Hotel was secure and when we left our bags on the day of checkout they felt secure. Great location especially if you are getting the Skybus. However we were in a room just one level above the breakfast area and every morning around 7 AM we were awoken by the smell of a grease? Not sure if this was drifting up from the dining area or if there was some exhaust from the kitchen somewhere. As you can't crack a window it was pretty unpleasant. If you are sensitive to smells this might not be the place for you. Would probably not stay again unless we were in a different part of the hotel for this reason. It was also rather loud in the morning as the doors close heavily (room for improvement there).

Checkin quick and easy, although staff should check booking benefits before trying to upsell a benefit at the hotel. Being a VIP member at this property entitles me to free parking. The staff member tried charging me $40 till she looked closer at the booking and benefits.
