The main thing this hotel has going for it is Location-Location-Location. We walked everywhere. Thrift shops, record stores, restaurants, theatres, cafés… it’s all there.
One thing worth mentioning is that the hotel is a maze. You can get lost looking for your room. After a certain time at night, the front door is locked and a door beside it opens with the room key. From there, we made it up the stairs in a corridor with rooms… nothing else. It took us some time to figure out that you have to leave the hotel by going outside on a balcony (on the second floor) and find another door to re-enter the hotel. Then, we walked through some maintenance room/hall and ended up back in a familiar part of the hotel and found our room. Coming back from the bar Saturday night, it was quite a surprise not knowing where to go or what to do. The front desk is empty, all the lights are off… it didn’t feel safe. Maybe a little heads up or a warning from the front desk would have gone a long way here.
While we’re at it, the $25/day parking was convenient since we didn’t need our car at all. It has to be the tightest parking lot in town, snuggly located in a tight back alley where you need to do a 90 degree turn on a dime while avoiding a brick wall, an thick iron fence and a car that didn’t pull into it’s spot all the way… not impossible but not simple.
I want to end my review on a good note. We did have a good trip and the hotel’s location can’t be beat.
