Great location, Life magazine history, and relatively quiet for NYC. Easy to walk to various eateries and shopping; not far from subway station. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful. Elevator system is old and a bit slow, but that is part of the building history. Has new Mediterranean restaurant (turn down the techno music) and coffee bar. Unfortunately, the Barista is unprofessional and rude. Recommend addressing that. This is still my fave boutique hotel in NYC.

We stayed 9 nights at the Life Hotel and had a great stay, the staff and hotel were great. Our family had a two queen room that fit our needs very well. It is a cool vintage property that offers smaller boutique sized rooms which is what we expected based on the website and reviews. The beds were very comfortable and the room had a larger bathroom than we expected. The location was perfect as you are waking distance to some key attractions like Times Square but also close to the subway. We would stay here again.

Terrific location. The room was as warm and bright as in the pictures. Staff is helpful and friendly. This is why I prefer to stay in hotels with staffed reception desk.

Jacket Ruined by Wet Paint in Hotel Lobby

Our five-night stay was OK until the whole experience was ruined by an incident at checkout. The space in the hotel lobby and around the front desk is very tight. There are exposed steel columns painted black. When we were checking out, my jacket touched one of the columns and it was covered by oily black paint! Apparently they were painting the columns and did not bother to put up a wet paint sign! I was wearing a new blue puffed jacket and it is completely ruined with the right sleeve covered in black paint. I reached out to hotel management. They have since put up wet paint signs but offered no compensation for the damage to my jacket. It is a terrible experience. Other than that, the location is convenient but the guest room is very tight. Our window is facing directly an exterior stairway that we had to keep the shutters closed all the time.

good but bring earplugs

The service and the location were great. Everything was clean, and the room had a good shower. My only complaint is how noisy the room was. The windows didn't stop any of the street noise, and the radiator was so noisy every time it went off.
