I stayed at two other resorts before arriving at Occidental Papagayo, and while the property itself has beautiful views and a great location, the overall experience was disappointing—mainly due to poor staff service.
The front desk staff were unhelpful and unresponsive, and the security personnel at the entrance and exit were outright rude. This was not a language issue—we had excellent service at two other nearby resorts where communication was never a problem.
The rooms are outdated, though they were kept clean. The bathroom felt like something out of an old care facility—low water pressure, a broken faucet, and an overall worn-out feel. The security safe didn’t work, and no one made any effort to fix it, even after we reported it. Housekeeping never showed up, despite reminders.
The shuttle system between the parking area and rooms was inconvenient. We booked an ocean view room but were given one almost entirely blocked by trees, with little to no view.
The food was average at best—breakfast was decent, but the lunch and dinner buffet were below expectations.
Although we made the most of our stay by enjoying the beach and scenery, the resort’s management and service were lacking. I won’t be staying here again.
