The room and resort was amazing. There was lots to do and the staff was very helpful and easy to find. There is a membership that the staff push pretty hard. They want you to go to a 90 min seminar and most of the staff will mention it to you.The buffet breakfast was not very good. The buffet dinner was pretty good, nothing remarkable but edible. The Mexican restaurant that you make reservations for, the food was not good but the staff was great. The Italian restaurant that you make reservations for was really good. The Steakhouse that you make reservations for was ok. The staff was great. The steak was overcooked. The snack bar was not very good. The food was fairly bland. Other than the food, we had an amazing time.

This place is really great! Clean rooms, friendly and helpful staff, lots of activities from zumba dance, sports bar, arcade room, boat transportation to and from Xcaret park next door, direct access to Delphinus, and snorkeling. We really loved what the hotel had to offer. Highly recommend!

This is a very beautiful property. You did a great job at creating a place that genuinely feels like a natural extension of the environment. Conversely, soon as I arrived I was being treated like a money sign and received very poor service, and I think for the wrong reasons. We had numerous staff tell us one thing and then we would come back and they would tell us another thing. This was not a language barrier. We also found the waiters to be quite rude: waiters would say snide things, make disparaging comments about your looks, disparage you for not knowing Spanish, and in general treat you poorly. Did not expect this from a supposed five star resort.

Problemas con regadera y no se iva bien el agua. Una lampara no funcionaba no la arreglaron. Me dieron 2 cama cuando pedi 1 , pedi cambio a las 11am dijeron k si queria hacer eso tenia k desocupar el cuarto ya y me daban otro asta las 3pm. Algunos trabajadores con mala cara en el buffet. Las comidas sin sal sin sabor los primeros 3 Dias todas las bebidas con azucar cero. El cuarto muy limpio sin queja.

Clean room. Amazing staff. This was my 4th stay at this resort and will not be my last. Calm, quiet and not crowded. The monkeys did not disappoint as usual. Much better experience than our last stay and even that wasn't horrible, just a lack of golf carts throughout the day. This trip was every 10 minutes or less so a great improvement. All areas were very clean and well maintained.

Overall our stay at Occidental was pretty good for our first all inclusive experience. There were a few aspects that we noticed that needed some maintenance i.e. lounge chairs by the beach that needed repair, some areas of the resort having a smell and some cups and other rubbish being left around the property for a couple of days. The rooms felt a little dated and the showers didn't maintain a constant temperature/pressure. The staff were wonderful and provided great service at all dining locations and throughout the resort. The shows provided plenty of variety for all ages. As non smokers we found it difficult with a number of other guests smoking at various locations through the property despite there being locations for smoking and having our neighbors smoke on their balcony stopped us from enjoying ours. In a resort that large we thought it could be possible to separate smokers and non smokers. Also being from Australia where tipping is not common we were confused about the process. The stay indicated that tips were included however it appeared to be customary across the resort. While these things detracted a little from our stay overall we are happy and would consider returning or visiting other Barcelo resorts.

We booked three rooms, and unfortunately, all of them had issues. While the thermostats were adjustable, they didn’t actually function; it was either freezing or we had to turn the air off entirely. In two of the rooms, the TVs didn't work, and in the third, the toilet was leaking. We were also disappointed that our group was separated. Two of us were placed in Building 10, which was far from ideal. We could hear everything—the nightly entertainment and the boats on the river—so it didn't feel secluded or peaceful at all. Additionally, one of our rooms lacked a balcony. The dining experience was another low point. One person in our group of seven got food poisoning. The reservation system for the a la carte restaurants is frustrating, and the food quality was questionable; even at the steakhouse, our waiter was rude and seemed frustrated by simple requests. Furthermore, getting a spot at the beach was a struggle, requiring us to be out by 7:00 AM just to secure a chair. Overall, the stay was decent because we loved the animals and the beach itself, but the room maintenance and service left a lot to be desired.
