In my opinion, this was the worst food experience I’ve ever had. Buffet food all day long and it seems like the same food they keep rotating throughout the days or weeks. Although the food looks ok, it’s either tasteless or the texture and temperature is like bad leftovers. Everything tastes watered down or something like flour added. Mexico is known for wonderful fruits, avocados, seafood and meats. Here, no fresh juice- the pineapple juice I got tasted like an added stevia type and carbonated water was added. No fresh guacamole, shrimp was bland had that dry cotton type texture to it. White fish was smelly, mooshy and chicken and hot dogs was mooshy too. Out of butter one day, ice cream machines broken twice, taco bar didn’t even have a decent taco. Comp coffee in the lobby old and cold. The coffee bar they have is not part of the all inclusive. The nacho cheese they serve at the snack bar gives movie theater nachos a Michelin star. The “beach” is a joke. Small man made inlet and no access to the real beach. Pool is cold after dark and there is no hot tub anywhere on the property. On our last day, we decided to spend the money to try and make up for the disaster and disappointment Occidental Xcaret caused. We took taxi to town/Playa Del Carmen and it ended being the best- supporting local restaurants that had amazing food; vibrant and fresh juice and exceptional tacos. The beach was beautiful, water was warm, we rented jet skis and played in the water.

The rooms were very clean. The grounds and pools awesome. We were especially impressed with Thanksgiving Day! The staff dressed up and the buffet was crazy! My kids (6-years old) loved the Kids Club, they had lots of crafts, cookie and cupcake decorating, a new outdoor area with Pirate Ship and playground. We enjoyed activities at Xcaret daily, the access cant be beat. I would recommend this resort.

Resort is beautiful and walking distance to Xcaret. Also wild animals and walking trails on the property are a nice touch. That is this resorts only saving grace. Beaches are non-existent. Also food was horrible. Eggs in the morning were soggy. Even boiled eggs were impossible to eat. Fruit quality was poor. Food cooked on the spot was incredibly greasy and inedible. A la carte restaurants were better but require you to book in person at the information desk and can only be done two days in advance. The resort does not have an app.

The food is very repetitive throughout the three meals a day and everyday. Minimal to least options for vegetarians. I was eating the same thing everyday which is boring. The veggie soups were also made with chicken broth. Also, the food was not allowed to be taken to the room which can be inconvenient. My brother got hurt during this trip. The incident happened outside the property but he was getting bandage from the hotel doctor. It was late in the night And He was super hungry. The pizza place in the resort was open and the staff refused me to take pizza to him. They asked to have him walk to their place if he wants to eat which was ridiculous. Exceptions should be made for situations like this but surely their rules are more important than being human during extraneous conditions.

Room is clean and spacious. They replenish your drinks in the fridge everyday. It’s right beside Xcaret park which is convenient. The wait time to get a drink is not ridiculously long. Drinks are good. No one explicitly ask for tips (money). Staff are polite. Beach is nice. U could see lots of fishes in the beach and salt water pool. No seaweeds. Pools are nice and clean as well. What we really like in this resort is the nature and history inside.. you’d see monkeys, iguanas, flamingos and other animals. You’d see several ruins too! Okay now, that so good part. Food is okay in the buffet. Ala carte.. is fine. Our favorites are Italian and Steakhouse. I got upset in with the Asian resto, coz I told the server and front of the house that my partner is allergic with cherry and guess what I saw on his plate, a piece of cherry! I had to talk to the server (i would have talked to the manager too) and the server said, it should be fine coz the food wasn’t cooked with cherries..really? I still tipped the server but i made sure she’s educated. Another disappointing thing is the check-in. We checked in around 8pm. It was a long day, bit hungry (hangry), and the check in is slow. Priority should go to people checking in. I was a bit cranky during registration but the front desk guy remained professional. Another less appealing here for some would be the lack of public transportation passing the resort. You’d have to walk to the hiway or call a cab.

Buffet Food is miserable. It’s same food every day. We lived on pizzas and tacos served above sports bar till 2AM. Too difficult to book speciality restaurants. Have to book days in advance. Earlier resorts have an app where you can simply book by clicking few options. Here you need to stand in long queue at front desk and then make bookings.
