Porto Gem

Best hotel experience in a long time. A unique property that includes a beautiful home inside. You have to see it to believe it! Staff were incredible! Extremely helpful and knowledgeable! Rooms were large and clean. Morning breakfast and evening bar were perfect. Great location within walking distance to everything. Don’t give out 5 stars very often but this one deserves it! Highly recommended!

Wonderful stay! The historical atmosphere at this hotel is amazing. They have embraced the history while keeping up to date with accommodations visitors enjoy. The gardens create a welcoming first impressions and the staff were extremely helpful with questions, places to visit and arranging restaurant times. Our room was spacious, clean and had the best shower from my two week stay in Portugal. All staff worked together to make the visitors experience top notch. The breakfast in the morning had many options Ms everything was delicious. I would love to return someday.

Lovely place disastrous booking.

Lovely site and building and furnishings. But given a room about 6.5 sq m in size which was tiny, claustrophobics and we had to leave as quickly as possible. The hotel were charming and refunded our down payment after the one night we had to stay as we could find nowhere else at such short notice. No small hotel accessories such as water, tissues.

Lovely quaint hotel

We got Grande suite which we did not think we had booked. Huge terrace but unfortunately was very windy so unable to sit on it. Breakfast was perfectly adequate with quite a good selection. It was quite cramped near food area so should extend this area. No lift so it was quite a hike to 3rd floor and as we were going on a cruise we had 2 big suitcases. Not great area but not too far to get into busy area.

Its a unique stay to be in an old castle and the decor is nice. To be able to park in the middle of Porto for 12eu is great. The breakfast is good. The staff during the day was very helpful. The night staff was a bit condescending (I suspect it is a language barrier). Somewhere very close by played really loud music until around 11pm. That said, I would still go back for the price I paid.

Lovely castle hotel

Lovely hotel! The staff were very helpful and friendly, and the breakfast was a nice way to start the day. It's about a 20 minute walk downhill into the centre of town (and uphill going back), but that wasn't too far. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this hotel!

The hotel’s architecture is beautiful and brings you back to the past. However, the hotel’s location and services lack in proficiency. It is far from the touristic areas – you need to walk over 30 minutes or get a taxi. It’s Wi-Fi is very weak and unreliable and the room’s décor is of poor quality.

We stayed for 4 nights at Castelo Santa Catarina. The hotel has an unusual, quirky, look to it that attracted our attention when we booked it. From the check-in to check-out, all staff were polite, friendly and obliging. My wife celebrated her birthday during our stay and at breakfast that day, the catering team brought out a birthday cake and sang Happy Birthday, which was very nice. Our accommodation was clean, spacious and very comfortable. The buffet style breakfast, included in the price, was plentiful with lots of choice. The hotel is situated centrally and it's easy to walk 10 to 15 minutes and be outside Sao Bento station and the centre of the city. The subway station Marques, which we didn't use, is a 5 minute walk away. The only issues that detracted from our stay were the dirty, smelly bins located directly outside the hotel entrance and the night we came back and found a stain on the bed sheets that has just been changed by the house keeping staff. While clean linen was readily provided, my wife and I ended up having to re-make the bed ourselves, which is not what we expected. However, overall, we enjoyed our stay and will return the next time we're in Porto.
