On my flight to Stockholm, which was to connect at London Heathrow, we were informed by the captain that there had been a fire at Heathrow and the power was out. Therefore, we returned to America.
Because there was no way I would be able to check-in to the property on my arrival date (and, as is standard, the booking would then be cancelled), I as well as Expedia staff contacted the property to explain the situation and request a refund (even though it was non-refundable, because clearly this was a situation out of anyone's control). We were denied.
I was offered a flight a few days later by the airline, but by then my reservation at the property was null and void and I was unable to pay for an entirely new stay at a new hotel since nothing had been refunded.
I find it unbelievable that a situation which was out of the control of me, the property, the airline, and everyone else does not constitute a legitimate reason to refund the booking.
I've stayed at Scandic properties in the past, but never will again.
