Terrible stay.

We checked in around 5pm. Our room was surrounded by rooms that were being renovated. No work was being carried out when we arrived. But we were woken up early by a lot of construction noise and all the workers talking really loudly outside our room. When we left, the construction workers looked surprised to see us, which tells me that they were told that no guests would be staying in the construction zone. We complained and the only response that we got was that we were supposed to have been told about the construction during check in. But we weren’t. The receptionist went and talked to the manager who said that there was nothing that he could do. The manager couldn’t even be bothered to come out and apologize. We weren’t offered anything, not even breakfast. I can’t believe that they would book people in the middle of a construction zone and allow the work to start so early. Absolutely ridiculous! Terrible experience, I wouldn’t bother staying here again as the staff don’t care about your comfort at all.

Just okay

I decided to overnight at the airport during my stopover in Sydney, rather than doing so in the city. I booked a standard room and was told at check-in that a standard room has no window! What?? Not sure I believed that as there was some confusion when I tried to clarify. They charged $30 extra for a window looking out over the airport. I agreed anyway since I arrived quite early. But you can only see the runway if you are standing at the window (not sitting comfortably anywhere in the room.) The room was just okay. Nothing special. There was a card asking guest to report any broken things that needed attention. I did because the toilet seat was not attached properly. I thought it was quite cheeky to ask guests to be their quality assurance team. Especially since housekeeping should have spotted the toilet seat issue when they cleaned it. So why wasn’t it fixed before I checked into the room? The TV screen menu for the restaurant in the lobby was not updated to reflect actual prices. The rooftop bar is pretty sad. It generally felt like a property that lacked a real sense of caring. I probably wouldn’t stay there again.

The hotel is in a great location when travelling internationally from or to Sydney. The rooms are good and beds are comfortable. Check in and out was easy. Only concern was how slippery the bathroom was being all tiles without a shower screen. Lots of water in the floor and as we were travelling with a toddler, it was a bit precarious. We used room service and paid close to $70 for a sandwich and a burger. We had been travelling for 30 hours with a toddler, so just needed to eat.
