2/10 Terrible

I booked this hotel for a five day business trip. Four days before my flight my mother had a terrible accident and on the day I was due to travel she was booked in for emergency surgery. It was a deeply stressful and frightening time. I had to cancel my trip, as any decent person would.
Expedia were amazing. They understood right away and even called the hotel several times, confident Hyatt Vancouver Alberni would show some humanity and allow me to move my booking by one week. They were wrong. The hotel refused completely. No compassion. No care. No sense of decency.
I wasn’t asking for a refund. I only wanted to change the dates. I was told I’d already been given a “substantial discount” for choosing the non refundable option. That supposed discount was less than a breakfast. To call that substantial is an insult. They also tried to blame Expedia's policy which was not true, as confirmed by Expedia.
I am a CEO who books hotels for myself and my staff all over the world. I can say with absolute certainty that I will never use a Hyatt property again. This experience showed me exactly what kind of company they are. Heartless when it matters most.
Thankfully, I rebooked at L’Hermitage Hotel, where the staff were kind, compassionate and professional. The contrast was shocking. L’Hermitage has my loyalty from now on when I visit Vancouver. Hyatt Vancouver Alberni has lost it forever.
