HiPark, Nice

This is not a good aparthotel with a big problem with cleanliness throughout both in the rooms & corridors. The general location is great & the perception of the hotel is modern with decent facilities but attention to detail & housekeeping is very poor. On checking in we found that there were only four wardrobe hangers for three adults & no batteries in the tv remote. The floors & particularly the carpets were extremely dirty & on the first night we found ants crawling everywhere including in the beds which subsequently explained the bites that we all experienced on the first day! We asked to be moved to another room & the ones that we were shown were also very dirty but eventually settled on the best of a bad bunch. The cleaning regime for the hotel is weird - if you stay less than 6 nights your room is cleaned & linen changed every two days but if you stay for seven nights or more you only get one clean & change of linen on the seventh day so we had to ask for things like replacement toilet rolls. The carpet in our new room was disgusting & although we asked for it to be cleaned nothing happened. We hoovered it ourselves (including under the sofa bed which clearly hadn't been touched for years as it had empty bottles & general muck underneath) & had to empty the hoover four times. Although the hotel boasts a fully equipped kitchen there is very little in the way of utensils with no chopping knives just salad servers, a wooden spoon & a fish flap. There was a toaster in the first room we were in (302) but not in the second room (101) & we had to ask for more saucepans as there was only one & were given another large stewing pot. When we complained to the manager he was generally disinterested & actually admitted that they had a problem with ants blaming the rooftop pool & vegetation around balconies rather than the filthy state of the place. He was only prepared to offer two days free breakfast as compensation which we did not take him up on, based on the general cleanliness this did not encourage us to take up his offer but other than that he said we would have to talk to e-bookers. He must have been put out by this as when we asked for a later check-out time he refused. Generally the staff were ok ,the man who helped with our room move was very accommodating although no one seemed willing to view the problems in our room suggesting that this was not a surprise to them. The balcony/terrace area in the room was filthy & there were clear instructions advising guests not to take furniture or clothes outside onto the balcony which seemed to miss the point of the balcony/terrace.We have stayed in many hotels & apartments across France & this has to be one of the worst falling well below our expectation for what we paid. Although the hotel is situated in an excellent area of Nice directly opposite a large shopping centre & supermarket the hotel did not seem to encourage self catering even though it promoted itself on this, we will not be returning & would not recommend this hotel.

Family Holiday

Almost everything is positive, in particular the staff are very helpful and friendly. Only two negatives are: 1) the gym and swimming areas are very small and limited (no weights in Gym and only a few running and cycling machines) and swimming pool too small. 2) the room we were in had a couple of faults - bathroom had extractor not working, shower screen was leaking, and at night there was a constant noise which sounded like it was coming from above floor of some sort of extractor fan.

Friends getaway

Two friends and I stayed in the Hipark hotel for a week. We really enjoyed our stay there and we found the staff at the desk very helpful and informative. We used the pool on a few days , it is small but has a nice location on the roof. Also, there are no sun loungers so bring a towel. There is a large very busy supermarket opposite the hotel but also some small friendly shops nearby if you just want to pick up a few items, the kitchenette is handy if you do not want to eat out all the time . The hotel is about 5 mins walk to the tram, which is great as we got it downtown and home most nights(taxis are very expensive). We walked also - 15 minutes to old town and 25/30 to the promenade. It is a nice area and we felt it was safe. Be aware that the apartments are not cleaned for stays of longer than 6 days, you can get clean towels for a euro each and pay for midweek clean. We were able to get extra keys so there was no problem with that. Nice is a lovely city to visit, we also visited Monaco and the beautiful St Paul de Vence(cheaply by train and bus). The tourist office is on the Promenade near McDonalds and they are helpful.

Pleasantly surprised

Having read previous reviews we didn't have high expectations but were pleasantly surprised. We found staff to be very pleasant from the outset (people in Nice were very helpful and friendly in general#. We had a one-bed apartment with sofa bed #which was quite comfortable# for three people. It was very modern and had everything you would need for a short stay. A couple of things that would make the apartment better. Small sink in toilet room #toilet and bathroom are at opposite ends of the apartment#. Sun loungers in the pool area #very uncomfortable to lie on wooden boards!#. The pool area is quite small by the way. Screens on windows to stop mosquitoes getting in. Taxis are very expensive #that's the Cote d'Azur for you# so we walked or got the tram #on Avenue de la République# most of the time. There is also an SNCF station #Nice Riquier# about 4/5 blocks away and we got the train to Monaco from there. We took a day trip by bus 400 #1 hour slow bus# to St Paul de Vence. There are plenty of coffee shops for breakfast/lunch on Avenue de la République. the supermarket #Carrefour) is just across the street. It is massive and has everything you could want but tills can be very slow. Plenty of clothes shopping on Avenue Jean Medecin. Overall, I would highly recommend Nice for a city break and it has the beach and the beautiful city park. Good food, culture and a beautiful city.

Most disappointing really

From the beginning it was clear that this was not going to be the most pleasant experience. On arrival, it was said that both breakfast and the parking were *not* included in the price, my understanding being the contrary. The staff most unhelpful about it. Second, the way I understood the room turned out to be completely wrong. I knew we had a studio but thought there was a bed and then a separate couch. There wasn't. In fact, it was a bed which turned into a couch. No proper bed. This was not good for my back. Third, the air conditioning didn't really work, so it was permanently 'cool' (being Nice in August) and the room was pretty cold at times. Asking for extra blankets meant that none came until our 2/3 night stay in the hotel. Fourth, the towels were of very poor quality. Fifth, the room was only being 'cleaned' once during our 3 night stay. Which in itself would not so bad, if the carpet in the middle of the room was not stained beyond recognition and disgusting generally. Sixth, Wifi completely useless in most parts of the room. Seventh, the shower head was also useless. It squirted water in all directions but down - which was a nightmare for having a shower but also ended up flooding most of the floor - using the said useless towels to remedy the situation. Eighth, on check out day (11am) we had someone let themselves into our room at (8.40am) (9.26am) and (10.20am) only for us to shout at the time to leave again. (cleaning staff) Finally realising (albeit late it might be a good idea to put a 'do not disturb' sign for the last 30 mins of our stay! These are literally just SOME OF THE PROBLEMS we had and I have not listed them all. The staff were always polite and nice in general but the service in the place was certainly not of 4* quality. It was truly disappointing. The only conciliation was that we didn't have to stay in the hotel for most of the day as we left and made the most of the city and its surroundings.
