What was intended to be a special trip for my wife’s 30th birthday became a deeply disappointing and frustrating experience due to a series of entirely avoidable issues.
1. Premature and Unauthorised Payment
Despite being explicitly told that payment would be taken upon arrival, the full amount was charged the day after booking—three months prior to our check-in date. This is completely unacceptable and a breach of the terms communicated to us.
2. Lack of Basic Hospitality on Arrival
Upon arrival, we received no assistance whatsoever with our luggage, nor were we shown to our room. We later watched other guests being offered this service, which made the inconsistency—and neglect—particularly stark.
3. Poor Room Condition and Maintenance Issues
While the room itself was basic but passable, the bathroom was clearly suffering from water damage and wear, especially around the door. It quickly became obvious why: the shower leaked significantly, with water spilling out every time we entered or exited. This is not only poor maintenance but also a safety hazard.
4. Inaccessible Room & Absence of Staff Late at Night
Returning to the hotel around 10:30pm one evening, we discovered that all of our room keys had been deactivated. When we went to reception, there was no one present. We waited around 15 minutes, looking for staff, only to eventually find someone who told us to wait again without making any attempt to actually call for help.
