Clean and tidy. Heating was playing up but we had extra heaters in our room and were perfectly cosy. The bathroom had a couple of minor faults and we had particularly loud neighbours but all in all pleasant experience. Food good and service excellent..

Disliked: Amenities
Decidedly average. Despite the temporary manager being attentive, helpful & professional, he could not make up for the lack of competence of some of the other staff. Food was plentiful but of mediocre quality. The room was generally ok but quite a few issues.
Very convenient for our trip to the local hospital and very reasonable price including breakfast. A warm welcome at reception on check-in. Nice large room with comfortable big bed. You can open the windows to let in fresh air - not always possible these days at some hotels. We loved that it was over the pub/restaurant (a good menu plus specials and what we had was cooked really well) yet the pub couldn’t be heard from the room. Breakfast had a good selection of cereals etc and cooked options. Only downside - the bathroom was clean but had a few issues - toilet didn’t flush well, a few bits of sealant missing here and there plus the shower wasn’t working. You could only turn on the hot side (and that was scalding hot) but the cold side wouldn’t budge so couldn’t be used. We only reported as we left so couldn’t say if the problem was fixed quickly. We were told some of the bathrooms were being updated and it certainly wouldn’t stop us visiting again.
It wasn’t that it was dirty dirty it’s more that a tin of paint wouldn’t go a miss here and there.
And the outside needs a trim here and there such as the large trees near to the building.
A couple of the members of the evening staff seemed to want to be elsewhere, however the lady at breakfast was bubbly and very helpful.
Stay regularly, staff very helpful and decent price for a good night's sleep

Ok we stayed at this hotel/restaurant for two nights on a stop over to Cornwall for a week and returned for one night return.
We stayed in room 4 next to reception and very convenient access to the restaurant.
We asked for another Ron on out return as the so called double bed was a large single being a nightmare but the housekeeper said she would make up room 5 into a twin which was much better👍
All staff very friendly and happy to help a credit to Chek and Brewer.
Both Ron tired but clean but room 5 shower over bath as all rooms are couldn’t turn heat down so to hot to shower😡
Clean bed linen towels with toiletries very good but no USB sockets which you may expect in this day and age.
One main reason we stayed here we use Tesco vouchers on food so three days overall was value for money.
Food good drinks expensive but we don’t get out much lol.
I feel this hotel/ restaurant is used by lots of professional people on one night stays.
Would stay again but only using vouchers but again must say all staff outstanding a credit to the company.
Happy days
Victor Meldrew 😃
