I stayed at Hotel Riu Palace Peninsula a few days ago, having made my reservation back in November. Unfortunately, my experience was a mix of positives and significant disappointments.
To start, I had booked and paid for an ocean-view room well in advance, expecting to enjoy the beautiful Caribbean views. However, upon arrival, I was told the hotel was overbooked, and no ocean-view rooms were available. This was incredibly stressful, and after going back and forth—refusing to accept a garden-view room—the manager eventually stepped in, and suddenly, an ocean-view room became available. While I ultimately got the room I had paid for, dealing with this issue ruined half of my first day and left me feeling frustrated.
Other areas of the hotel also fell short of expectations. The à la carte restaurants felt like cubicles without windows, and the food was underwhelming. Additionally, the mini-bar service was inconsistent—I had to request refills every day, and on my last day, despite multiple calls, my request was completely ignored.
On the positive side, the buffet was excellent, offering a variety of fresh and delicious options daily. The service at the beach and bars was outstanding, with friendly and attentive staff. Both the beach and pool areas were well-maintained and enjoyable.
