I had a very good meal in the restaurant but the room was dark and depressing. This was partly the decor, with all the walls and ceiling painted a very dark blue/black, but there were also signs of damp, with peeling plaster.
The picture is the view from the window, which is supposed to be a view of the river.

We loved the bar and restaurant area, the decor was nice and the whole area was clean. Food and drink was very good. Friendly staff.
Slightly disappointed in the room, mostly clean but not in the best condition. Bed was on a slant so nearly rolled off in the night. Could do with either air con or access to a fan as room got very warm (did stay in the middle of a heat wave though)
Positives first the staff were lovely, but the place is very dated, my room was awful looks like there had been a water leak some time ago and the wall behind my bed was in very poor condition the windows were filthy and there were dead insects on the ledges. The bathroom needed a complete overhaul and at least repointing. The carpet was dirty and the mattress on the bed had broken springs. Telly with picture issues too so couldn’t watch it. Room was like going back to the 1970s - Won’t be staying here again.
Very nice town and excellent hotel .. staff very helpful & friendly. Room was good, though old stains on the carpet (thought we had bought mud into the room). Comfortable room, good food served at the hotel for dinner
Hotel was lovely Drinks were pricey but apart from that would definitely recommend. The staff were so lovely and friendly.. The room was comfortable with THE BEST pillows EVER. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Everything to make this place great, but it really isn't. On arrival lights did not work, TV firestick did not work, so no TV. Shower was stucj on hot so was unusable. Public toilets were blocked.
On the positive staff were really good and food ok.

Great find for dog owners
Great little find on the outskirts of Manchester. Very dog friendly and welcoming. Great breakfast included. Room we had (Deluxe Double) was as per the photos. Just a little shame the TV was not working, but they did apologise for the known fault and offered free drinks as recompense.
Changed rooms due to noisy pipes, but they were very helpful about this. Couldn’t ever get through to anyone at reception. Went down to order good, sent the wrong food! Ate it anyway as was very hungry! It was good. Breakfast was good.

Food not great in restaurant. Whole place needs some TLC.
I imagine this hotel was nice… 20 years ago when the photos advertising it were taken. Such a shame because it’s a nice building in a lovely area. I can’t speak for the original building itself, maybe those rooms are better kept, but we were placed in the outbuilding across the way and the rooms were incredibly tired and shoddy, with chipped paintwork and soiled carpet. The toilet was stained and there were no toiletries in the bathroom. On arrival, we had to use the telephone as instructed on the main desk to call for someone to come and check us in. Both staff members we encountered looked incredibly young (not an issue in itself of course) however when my partner went to alert the young girl on reception that we had needed to make a police call the night before due to what sounded like DV in the room next door to us, it was clear that this staff member was highly inexperienced. They did not ask any further questions or enquire as to the safety of the room occupant next door. Just said ‘Oh dear’ and left it at that…?
Frequent visitors to the area but not sure we would stay again.
