Staff were great but not so the hotel

I was very disappointed with this hotel. It’s a shame because the staff were great but the hotel wasn’t. My arrival was greeted with people smoking cannabis in the area next to the front door, which I personally can’t tolerate! In my room, the air conditioner didn’t work, the fixtures and fittings in the hotel looked outdated and when it came to breakfast, it was a chaotic free for all where the layout of the breakfast area led to people getting in each others way, where the queues clashed. Plates, cutlery and refills of the breakfast items were slow to arrive. I did get assigned a different room where the air conditioner worked, by a friendly staff member who was more than happy to help. However, during the night, this aircon unit started to make loud noises, forcing me to turn it off. I then got too hot and found it hard to sleep. The hard bed and lumpy pillows didn’t help either. The TV had a weak signal and the transmission kept breaking up, making it unwatchable. I hate to be so negative about the hotel as the staff were great and they seemed to do their jobs as best they could. The food was hot and fresh when it was available. The room was spotlessly clean. Nothing was too much to ask of anyone. The problems with this hotel seem to come from management. The hotel needs some tlc. The breakfast area needs redesigning. Generally the maintenance needs to be improved. Sadly, if you want a comfortable, good night’s sleep, this is not the place to get it.

Booked a twin room with my teenage son, but was allocated a double on arrival. With no twin rooms available they made up a sofa bed, making the room very cramped and it was less comfortable for him. The shower didn’t drain very well, the aircon did not work but did have an annoying drip. From the state of the wall, it had been doing this for some time. Even the toilet roll holder fell apart on touch. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was pretty good, but overall not a great experience. Some basic maintenance needed.
