I did not like.the self check in nor not having a front desk of any kind. It’s a good location but so what if no one is there to help you get a ride to the airport or tour pickups. When I figured it out I found the people you called for codes into your room were very helpful. I just do not like this system.

The only good thing about the hotel was the location. It was walking distance to the BSI bus terminal and Bus Stop 6. It was next door to a bar which got noisy at night. I would not recommend this hotel. There’s no front desk, no receptionist. They text you a personalized pin number that you use to open the front door and your room. The room was tiny. There’s no desk to put your things on. The sink faucet was loose. No place to put the hand towel, they had just placed it on the sink. No bathroom counter. No lobby, just a couch on the main floor and two ipads to check in yourself if you did not do that ahead of time online. No bathroom in the lobby to use while you wait for your room to be available. There is a luggage storage room in the basement, but all guests have access to it, so it’s not secure. They even say that they don’t take responsibility for your items. No attendant keeping an eye on it. They say they have extra supplies (toiletries, towels and linen) in the luggage storage room. It’s just a tiny cabinet with a few supplies for the entire hotel. They were out of bath towels for days. There’s a live online 24/7 chat. I sent them a chat at 8pm requesting towels to take a shower. They said they would deliver it. After 2 hours, I chatted them again and they said they had no one at the property and that I would have to wait until morning. What kind of hotel doesn’t have towels??? Do not recommend. Especially for the price we paid per night ($300).

Booked this hotel at the last minute due to Airbnb not working out. Time of check in had not received a code for self check in, waited outside front of hotel for 30 mins. Area apparently noisy as earplugs are supplied for guests. Room nice, clean, three twin beds. Noticed front door area seemed to be a gathering place for locals (?). Good location. Did not see a staff member unsure if any lobby or amenities. All that being said booked last minute, it worked for one night, clean, good price great location. Would stay again.

Decent hotel in a good location, but bad stay

I made my reservation through Hotels.com with the Midtown Hotel in Reykjavik. Although the reservation (with Hotels.com) was for two rooms, only one room was provided. Although Midtown Hotel only acknowledged one reservation for one room, they charged me for two rooms. Neither Hotels.com nor Midtown Hotel have been able to refund the overcharge (for a room that was not provided). (Interestingly, Midtown Hotel said they couldn't provide a refund because I didn't cancel the reservation for the room they didn't provide.

This was my third trip to Reykjavik and the first time staying at this hotel — and it was a great choice due to the location and walkability. I would not suggest this hotel to the novice traveler who is looking for white glove service. I highly recommend for the well-seasoned traveler who can navigate self-service check-in, access codes and not seeing a receptionist. You will receive communication from the hotel prior to your stay requesting that you check-in online and provide your identification. Once you do, you receive the access code to the building, room, and luggage storage room. Again, everything is self-service. Our check-in was slightly complicated due to the access code not working for our room, bit was easily solved by calling the hotel staff from the lobby phone — and reaching someone was not an issue even at 10:15p.m. We had an extremely spacious room with separate sitting area. There is no A/C; which is not needed due to the moderate weather. The windows open, which means you’ll also hear street noise and you may hear music from the bar nearby — which is apparently enough of an issue that you receive earplugs. However, if you travel to NYC, Washington, DC, or other major metro cities, then this will not bother you. The amenities are not high end, but we weren’t expecting that. Luggage room location was a little sketch; but also manageable. Much, much nicer than a hostel, but not the Four Seasons. Highly recommend for the experienced traveler.
