Breakfast was the only meal we had and it was substantial and a lot of food was provided. Some aspects of the property need to be maintained, for example, some sockets not working including the hairdryer. The staff were attentive.

I liked its location - very convenient for Amesbury's facilities. I liked the fact that the room key also let me into the hotel from the street. I did not like the fact that in the morning there was no hot water in my room (or the one next door) and that the previous evening I'd had to mend the cistern in the loo. I got no apology for the lack of water. If I'd been the manager I'd have offered a voucher to entice me back - I need to stay in the area several times a year. Overall the hotel is very shabby - the shower in my room was a dreadful piece of work from about 5,000 years ago. I understand that historic buildings are an expensive pain to keep up to modern standards, and I know that the hospitality industry is still going through a really difficult time - and at the George you rely on incoming tourists. Perhaps it's because you expect most of your guests to stay once and then never again that you're prepared to accept such low standards of presentation. It's a shame, because the building is beautiful, and you could make so much more of it.

Property needs major refurb wooden windows were rotted in our bedroom.Manager said she had changed our room from front of hotel to back due to noise from disco opposite at Weekends.Unfortunately the room she put us in was above a smoking area where staff and patrons swore and spoke loudly till about 3a.m.and a beer cooling generator that constantly made a noise .Unable to close windows due to heat and in case they fell off.

Very nice staff but located right opposite a late night bar which had a street brawl at 2am in the morning with police and door staff.
