The hotel is best summed up by the main staircase. Beneath angels painted on the ceiling and the glamourous chandelier, is an ornate balcony and open riser staircase. This is ruined by the broken cherubs on the newel posts.
The room itself was clean with no trace of dirt or mould. The bed sheets where clean, the carpets in good condition and clean, but the towels were thin and worn. For my taste, the bed was a little soft.
The staff were polite and friendly.
Only one of the two very small lifts was working, the second had clearly been out of service for some time.
The slightly limited breakfast was quite edible, but the serving spoons were hot from sitting in the dishes (be warned) and not away from the heat lamps. We didn't have dinner, but there is a comfortable bar area.
Alas, the words adequate and functional best describe this hotel.
