The room needed updates and repairs. The cleaning staff was extremely friendly. The registration desk and restaurant staff didn't demonstrate the Hawaiian-friendly spirit experienced at many of the other restaurants and businesses we visited while on the island.

I love the Royal Kona and will likely stay every time I visit the Big Island! It’s a great price point with fantastic amenities available, as well as being family-friendly. I did notice some availability issues, which is always surprising to me because it seems a touch unreasonable to overbook nowadays, especially when some folks are coming in on international flights. Most everyone on staff is professional but I can understand that particular frustration, though I was lucky to dodge that issue this time. With that small note aside, the food was amazing as usual, spa treatment was luxurious and necessary, and the pool area was well maintained like it has been on every previous visit! I’m so grateful to have been able to spend Christmas in Kona at my favorite resort :)

The room was set up well and the view was great. The hotel is in a beautiful spot right on the water. However, the sinks were clogged, and the faucets and tub could use replacing. Overall, the property feels a bit run down and would benefit from some maintenance. Because of this, it didn’t feel worth the price for the stay.

First, we arrived around 3:00 PM, but were told that our room was not ready. We ended up waiting nearly three hours before we were finally able to check in. After checking in, we realized that the room was not the oceanfront room we had booked. It looked completely different from the photos shown online and was actually a garden-view room with a very limited partial ocean view. We went back to the front desk and waited another 20 minutes. Despite this, the staff insisted that the room was an oceanfront room. We requested a room change and were eventually moved to a slightly better room, but it still only had a partial ocean view. There was no introduction or explanation provided at check-in. We were not even informed which WiFi network to use. We asked for a resort brochure, which was not offered initially, and followed its instruction to use the “Royal Kona Resort” WiFi. That WiFi did not work at all—poor connection and extremely slow internet. When we contacted the front desk the next day, they told us we should be using the Hyatt WiFi instead, which also did not work. In the end, we had to contact the internet vendor, Spectrum, ourselves to resolve the issue. During our stay, the staff went on protest and strike, so our room was never cleaned, and towels were not replaced. The resort simply slipped a letter under our door stating that they did not have enough resources, which was not helpful at all. Overall, the resort is old and extremely unprofessional. The Lagoon To

Our room was next to a true oceanfront room, which remained empty throughout our stay. Despite this, it was never offered to us, and we could only catch a glimpse of the ocean by peeking through their balcony.
