The hotel is honestly beautiful and it was in a great location, right near the People’s Square and Nanjing Pedestrian Street. The room was large and they were kind enough to give us a free upgrade at checkout, perhaps because of my member status with hotels.com. However we found the staff to be borderline rude and unprofessional (aside from cleaning and housekeeping staff who were always so kind and courteous). Anything you asked (even if it were something as simple as where can I exchange money) was met with a sort of exasperation or annoyance. It got to the point where we put off asking anything because we didn’t want the same reactions. Additionally, we went during the autumn but it was still warm outside (averaging around low to mid 20’s). It was so warm in our room but we were told that the air con would not cool because they switched it off as it was cold outside. So that was that. And we were forced to sleep with the windows open all night just to get a bit of fresh air, even then our room averaged around 26/27 degrees on the thermometer. Whilst it is a stunning hotel with most of the right components to serve as a hub for your stay in Shanghai. For the money you’d be paying, I would personally opt for a different hotel, such as a known chain. At least there you know that you’ll get the service that you’d come to expect of a 4/5 star hotel.

The Yangtze is a great hotel. This is our third stay here and we are going back next week before our trip ends. The staff are all very helpful. Our flight arrived early in the morning and we were able to leave our bags with concierge until we could check in properly. Our room was a really spacious room and the bath and shower area was big! The bath itself is huge and really deep (we don’t have a bath at home so we really appreciated it). One minor issue with the turndown service, they only turndown one side of the bed, but there was two of us so one of us was left out every night. Overall, a very comfortable hotel and very well located!
