Chrck in was at 5 (the latest I have ever heard) and checkout was at 10 (the earliest that I have ever experienced and we do travel a lot). That was inconvenient, especially with kids. We prechecked in at 2. They told us when room is ready, they will text us. I didn't get any messages so we came back to the hotel at 4:45pm, sat in the car, and 2 minutes to 5 I went to the lobby. I said I had already checked in and was just eaiting till 5 to get the key. The lady said of I have your keys here. I wasn't sure when it was ready but definitely novody was going ro text us to lwt us know thar the room was ready. The hotel room looked very old, carpet looked dirty. TV is super old. The water was warm for a while then it was just cold. So my husband showered in cold water after kids and I. My husband and I stayed at this property long time ago, about 13 years ago before we had kids. We did enjoy out stay. I can't say the same about last time we stayed with kids.

Friendly staff and clean room. Only issue was the air vents turning off and on during the night and being so loud that it was hard to sleep. We weren't able to figure out how to turn it off so we just dealt with the noise. Other than that- highly recommend because of the amenities and location

I really wanted to give this hotel more stars because the staff were absolutely amazing; genuinely the highlight of the stay, and the main reason I’d consider returning. Unfortunately, the property itself feels very outdated. The shower had extremely low water pressure, and when I first turned it on, the shower head wasn’t properly secured and flew off, flooding the bathroom floor. Parking is also difficult; spaces near rooms are limited, so you either need to park in the back lot or hope to arrive during less busy hours. Inside, nearly every door hinge squeaks loudly, and the walls are very thin; you can hear almost every movement and noise from neighboring rooms. While the movie rental shelf in the lobby was a nice touch, the selection of snacks, medicine, and basic convenience items was very limited. Overall, wonderful staff, but the building itself could really use updates and maintenance.

Love Love & Luggage: Suitehearts Lagonita Lodge – Big Bear Lake If you love cozy lakeside stays with tons of space, Lagonita Lodge delivers—but with a few quirks worth knowing. Check-In Experience Unconventionally late check-in at 5 PM. Arrive 4:59? Too early. Try 5:01? Better. They’re religious about it—no exceptions. Two front-desk ladies: one an absolute angel, cheerful and helpful. The other? The bear statue in the lobby had more warmth. She served attitude like it was a resort fee (there isn’t one). Even an elderly guest caught the smoke. When we finally got to our room, it still wasn’t ready—two housekeepers lounging, one casually eating. Zero urgency at all! Parking Super easy, plenty of spots. Location Perfect—literally steps from the lake. Amenities Great for adults and kids: rec room, indoor pool, outdoor jacuzzi deck with gorgeous lake views. Room Huge condo-style suites: separate living & dining areas, balcony, full kitchen. But cookware/utensils weren’t clean, infotainment is ancient, and the bedroom TV wasn’t hooked up—I had to HDMI it myself. Lots of space, but showing its age. Check-Out Odd—some days 12 PM, some 10 AM. Double-check. Checkout bonus: elevators died, so we carried all our luggage down the stairs—because why not end with leg day? After a long hike, lol.

I did not know prior to booking that the property is a timeshare. Timeshare owners get first dibs on specific rooms and Expedia is used to sell the leftover, less desirable rooms. We got a bear view room (a 1-bedroom lake view apartment). I requested a top floor unit, but those were all taken by timeshare owners. Our room was unfortunately very noisy, on the ground floor and the small playground immediately outside of your balcony so you don't get much privacy. Kids and parents at the playground were constantly looking into our apartment. It made it hard to enjoy the lake view when you always had to have your curtains drawn due to people peeking in. Other noisy drawbacks: The building is old so you will hear the people on the floor above you stomping around, you hear whenever they turn on their water; you share a bedroom wall with the building elevator (so you will hear it running) and the unit's water heater. The water heater makes clanking noises when heating up, so we were woken up one morning at 6:00 a.m., another at 6:30 a.m., and our final day at 2:00 am! The maintenance team said that due to the high mineral count in their water, a lot of sedimentation builds up in the water heaters, causing the clanking noises. The room was stocked with basic necessities but clearly needed renovation. Carpet was very dirty. Wish I had known these things before booking.
