Mt Hood’s historic Cedarwood Cabin

Cedarwood Cabin is a magical place to slow down, unwind, unplug, relax. This charming vintage cabin offers an authentic Mt Hood stay for your romantic getaway, creative retreat, and outdoor adventures. Hike nearby trails or hit the ski slopes, then return to Cedarwood to stoke the woodstove and watch the fire, read, write, relax, and savor the simple life. Welcome to Cedarwood Cabin!

For those who seek an authentic cabin experience, Mt Hood’s original Cedarwood Cabin offers the rustic, historic, and simple. Think of it as stepping out of the modern. Hand-built in 1922 and lovingly restored. If you love hand-crafted details, you'll fall in love with Cedarwood.

A beautiful enamel woodstove is the centerpiece--with firewood provided! Practice your pioneer skills, get a fire going and tend it, and savor the reward.

The double bed sleeps two and the futon couch folds down for an additional sleeping spot (about the size of a double bed).

The kitchenette is basic, but has tools to turn your groceries into great meals: a plug-in hot-plate and griddle (no oven). Microwave, coffee grinder, french press, and an assortment of bowls, dishes and utensils are at the ready. Or enjoy the nearby restaurants and brewpubs of Welches.

The bathroom is an arm’s reach from the backdoor. It’s a quick step out, but inside is completely remodeled; you’ll find the subway tile shower, sink, toilet, towel cabinet, and built-in cedar shelves. There’s even a twist-timer wall heater for your convenience during your washroom time.

For travelers accustomed to more modern accommodations, not to worry, you can fall in love here, too. But please know that this cabin, has simple cooking set up, and is by design a rustic and simple structure. (See details in Other Things to Note)

You won't find a TV, but you'll find fun books on hiking, wildflowers, and Mount Hood history. You'll find a cozy couch with soft blankets and hand-made pillows to read, to nap, to cuddle. Fall asleep to the gentle patter of rain.

The entire cabin and property is available to guests, including the outdoor river-rock firepit (excluding burn-ban season)

Available by email or phone for important communication or emergencies.

The cabin is on a loop gravel road of other cabins and homes. So there is no through traffic. You can see other homes from the cabin. You may see neighbors walking their dogs. It’s a quiet, safe neighborhood, where folks keep an eye out for each other but also respect privacy.

Conveniently located just off of Mt Hood's main route, HWY 26. Cedarwood Cabin is less than 5 miles to Welches, 5-10 miles from some of the best trailheads, and 15-30 miles to the ski areas. Easy access to grocery store, brewpubs, coffee shop, gas station.

Although the cabin may get a dusting of snow in winter, it's low enough elevation to be accessible year-round. You won't need 4-wheel drive or a special vehicle. Parking is free.

RUSTIC BY DESIGN
Please know that this is a true cabin experience. It is not a modern house with some decorating touches to evoke the "style" of a mountain cabin—it is an ACTUAL CABIN. Think of it more like “glamping.” The bathroom is a step outside (though covered). For some, this may be their first experience with rustic and feel like they are truly "roughing it." For those who love to stay in places like yurts, lookout towers, wall tents, tiny houses, and tree houses, you’ll love adding Cedarwood Cabin to your list!

PRIVACY
Located in a small loop road with about a dozen or so other cabins and homes, you can see neighbors from the property. (So while it is indeed a getaway from the city, please do not expect to be deep in the wilderness.) However, from the inside, you’ll feel transported. The views from the windows are filled with trees, and the Pendleton wool curtains can be drawn to make your cabin experience all you own.

This is a classic 1-room cabin. The floor plan is open. Dividing the space between bedroom, kitchen, and living room is a plank wall, and curtain. Ideal for couples. But please note the minimal privacy for more than a solo traveler or couple.
During your stay at this cabin, you're just a quick walk from Salmon River. Enjoy your stay with amenities like a kitchen and a fireplace in the cabin.
  • The cabin offers a kitchen, a fireplace, and a patio
  • Steps from Salmon River and 11 minutes by foot from Sandy River

Incredible getaway, the cabin was gorgeous. We couldn't use the fireplace since there was a burn ban in effect but it was still incredibly cozy. Everything about our stay was smooth, lots of great info provided by the host. Located near some beautiful hiking trails and close enough to visit Portland too.

We were excited for our stay at this property; however, shortly after our arrival we found a mouse. We contact VRBO and the owner. The owner denied our claim “as it had never happened before” and refused to refund us although we had to find alternative lodging (Marriott hotel in South Portland). Overall it was a bad experience.

Enjoyed our stay

My 12-year-old daughter and I had the best mommy-daughter trip at Cedarwood Cabin! It was cozy, peaceful, and had everything we needed. We loved playing games, listening to records, and learning about the cabin’s history. The perfect place to disconnect and make special memories together!

Peaceful cabin

Ian’s cabin was an excellent place to stay near Mount Hood! The cabin was a perfect and peaceful place with everything we needed. Ian also had several recommendations for hikes and restaurants in his guest book that were perfect to go check out. Highly recommend but will note for those that may not notice in the listing there is no WiFi and very little to no cell signal.

Lovely cabin

Ian is a spectacular host! The cabin is rustic and cozy and well equipped. Has a lovely history that you can read about when you are there. Loved our mornings on the front porch sipping coffee! Many wonderful hikes in the area-from easy to challenging. Hope to return to this charmer!

Perfect cabin stay!

This was our second time staying at the cedarwood cabin and it was just as charming and cozy as last time. Being able to get out of Portland and spend time here was invaluable. Definitely will be coming back!

Cute cabin

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would visit again. I loved reading about the history of the cabin. We did wish that the linens were stocked for our visit. We said four people were coming, but there was a top sheet but no bottom sheet for the futon. Also, there was one washcloth in the bathroom for all four of us! Another kitchen towel or two for our three night stay would have been nice, too.

Stayed 3 nights with two others that used the cabin as a platform to hike Mount Hood. Nice cabin, but the cell service was very limited and there is no WiFi (which was disclosed), but did not realize the cell service was so limited. Otherwise, nice place and owner is very response

Not as secluded as the pics mate it appear. My fault but didn’t realize there’s no stovetop (hot plate and plug in grill sufficed though). Overall cute cabin for rustic experience.

We had a great time staying here for a couple of days! It’s in a really quaint forest community and really sets a great vibe for a trip to the Oregon wilderness.

Nothing Short of Magic

Stepping into this cabin, you can tell the host has thoughtfully and carefully worked through each detail to capture the history and beauty of the area. The cabin was so peaceful, with sounds of rain and the river nearby, beautiful lookout windows, and the comfiest bed. Woodstove kept us toasty warm (after a couple of failed attempts to start a fire), and the bathroom located just outside the cabin was the perfect refreshment needed.Kitchen is stocked with everything needed! Delicious waffles and coffee was had. The hot plate situation may look a little daunting, but we were able to cook up meals easily.Such a wonderful, peaceful stay! Highly recommend.
