A few local favorites:
Jockey Cap: Located in Fryeburg on Route 302, approximately one mile from downtown Fryeburg, this short 15 minute hike to the top of this landmark will reap hikers a fine reward. Atop the “cap” you’ll enjoy a 360-degree view. A range finder, erected in honor of Arctic explorer Admiral Robert E. Peary will help you identify all the surrounding peaks; over thirty can be seen!
Sabattus Mountain: Located off Route 5 in the Town of Lovell, this ¾ hour, 1 mile round trip is a pleasure during any season. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the spectacular views from the ledges at the top.
Pleasant Mountain: Located just west of Moose Pond in Bridgton, just off Route 302. This 150-vertical foot mountain takes approximately 3 hours with a distance of 3 ½ miles. Views from the summit include Moose Pond, Kezar Pond and Lovewell Pond, as well as the Presidential Range in New Hampshire..
Evans Notch: There are numerous trails in this region of the White Mountain National Forest. Refer to a White Mountain map or guide to find these beautiful hikes. Here are just a few:
Stone House – White Cairn Loop
East Royce Mountain
Caribou Mountain
Bald Face
The Roost
Wheeler Brook
Albany Mountain
