Our stay at the Monarch was clean and comfortable. The room was tiny and faced a busy street so there was a decent amount of street noise. But the price was super reasonable and the host was lovely.

The property is very dated. The room was clean, but cramped. The mattresses were uncomfortable, thick foam pads, not real mattresses. We never saw the proprietors. We arrived just after 6:00 pm to find a note taped to the office door with our room number. We did not use the shower which was small and rather unappealing.

We got to our room before 9pm but the receptionist was already gone for the day and the office was closed. While we left the door to our room open for the few minutes it took us to bring in our luggage, a million mosquitos got into our room and bit us all night. The microwave in our room didn't work, and when we called the phone number that was provided to us (on a piece of paper taped to the door of the reception office), no one picked up or every called us back. We did not find an ice machine on the property either. It was a small bed and a small room overall, not close by to anything really. It's fine in a pinch, but just know that you'll be left on your own. The reception office was still not open the next morning, and we left after 8am. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the reception office to be open by that hour.
