Spend a bit more for a better stay elsewhere.

I recently stayed at The Surf Hotel and Gardens in Fort Bragg and was disappointed with the overall experience. The carpet in the room was filthy, and the drapes were missing hooks, so I had to use a pin just to keep them closed at night—definitely not what you'd expect, even from a budget stay. On a positive note, the room itself was a decent size and the hotel is conveniently located near many local attractions, which made exploring the area easy. The breakfast was basic continental style: toast, cereal, packaged muffins, and fruit. Nothing special, but it did the job. Overall, cleanliness and maintenance were lacking, and I would not choose to stay here again.

Very clean, nostalgic feel and friendly. Close to town but not in town. The gardens are great for an evening stroll, glass of wine or just to visit with friends. I would definitely stay there again. The free breakfast is minimal, but still free, no complaints here at all.

When I checked in I had to remind them I already paid. Got to my room and there was a lady in there clearly high with a dog laying on the bed. Went to the lobby they said “oh sorry we thought we got her out…. Did she say anything to you.” Gave me another room there was bugs on the floor and something brown smeared on the wall by the toilet l. I really just almost walked out but wanted a hot shower….. the water was cold. Then to top it off they gave me a room next to the other room so I got started down by the high lady and her friend. Did not feel safe

Mediocre to good

This place is mediocre to good. In desperate need of new beds and pillows. I’m also not a fan of carpet. The WiFi was questionable. Had to change rooms because cable didn’t work but the us wasn’t such a big deal. That happens. I like to support mom and pop places but it takes money for these improvements. The rates were high enough but there were a lot of stafff cleaning when we arrived hard to make it these days. Good luck Surf Morel some shady activity in next door strip mall although the location was very convenient

Disappointed

When we booked the trip there was no option to pay at the time of booking. Upon arrival we were charged 80 dollars more than the quoted price. We contacted the booking agent and were told that prices can be changed between booking and arrival even though we were quoted a price at the time of booking. The room was large but very dated. The coffee maker, ice bucket and nightstand were dirty. There was no blanket on the beds but one was provided when we asked for it. Small inadequate pillows on the beds.

Everything else can be perfect, but if the shower is a luke warm low flow disaster, that’s 1 star hotel, and that’s what we have here. A hot shower is a must after a long day of adventure. End of review.

Place is a bit dated and our room 157 could use a new (or cleaned) chair as the current one is stained. But bed was clean and comfortable and shower was hot and clean. Bathroom works. That’s really all I need and offered here at a fair price for the area.
