Beautiful, Clean, and Picture Perfect Inn

We were on our way home from Utah and stopped for the night in Gunnison. We were so impressed with the picture perfect Gunnison Inn when we drove by and looked it up on Hotels.com. It was affordable and the ratings were super high. We were excited to try it out and we were very pleased!

My only real problem was that the staff member who checked me in was extremely rude. I booked my 13 night stay (total $1,400 and change) about 24 hours in advance, because I got notice of a family death and had to come to town quickly. When I checked in, the woman at the counter was jarringly cold as she collected my payment, and when I explained the circumstances and asked if I could check out one day earlier, she could literally only say "you have to call Expedia", and then refused to engage further when I said I had already checked with Expedia (whose chatbot said I needed to talk to the hotel). I understand there could be cultural differences (I believe the person in question is from Eastern Europe) and that business owners will often hold a grudge against people who book through a third party (while still listing with those very third parties). I'm also not the type of person who believes patronizing a business entitles me to the emotional lives of its employees. But I do believe businesses should try to meet the customer's needs (especially one who just dropped a sizable booking on a room that would have surely been empty for most of those nights), and this kind of inhuman, give-money-and-then-get-lost attitude is the kind of thing that will keep me from future bookings, at an otherwise nice hotel in a town I visit several times a year.

The room was larger than the average hotel room, the staff was friendly and it was quiet since it was a couple of miles west of downtown. I would certainly choose to stay there again if I am visiting in the Gunnison area.

Great little place but very hard beds

I love this hotel, it’s clean, owners are super friendly and it’s quiet. Only downside is the bed is extremely hard. After a long day of skiing, we couldn’t sleep because it was like sleeping on the ground.

We got in a little later and got the "last room", (203) which made me nervous. The room was not renovated, beat to hell and heading overall ick feeling. I'll post pictures here. The worst part about it was the mattress pad was itchy, and the sheets were super thin so I had to sleep fully dress so I didn't itch myself to death. Safety: The outside doors say use key, but there's no key lock. So anybody can get into the building at any time. They also have old school keys, which anybody can make a copy of. There was no way I was going to stay another night. I told the front desk clerk that I wanted my second night refunded and I would go elsewhere. They play dumb and told me because I looked it through Expedia I had to deal with them... Even though I paid them. I talked to Expedia and they talked to the front desk and supposedly I'm supposed to get a refund. The other reviews sound great so maybe the renovator rooms are nice . If that's the case they should take 204 and other non renovated rooms off there availability list.
