We stayed in the lodge/motel for two nights, which was a convenient location to Mount Rushmore. We also had dinner at the Powder House Lodge Restaurant and the food and service were great. The place had zero available tables and people waiting, so go early.

Decent stay

This was an overall comfortable stay. The privacy of individual cabins was nice for peace and quiet. Our cabin, number 45 was in need of an update. Broken blinds and some nasty mold on the walls around the shower. I forgot to take photos. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. There was no in unit housekeeping, but if you needed anything they had a checklist that you left outside your door and it was dropped off. There’s a no frills pool that lots of kids enjoyed. Plenty of towels are supplied. The restaurant is ok. Not great. We ate breakfast twice and dinner once. I thought there were better places in town. Overall, it was a good base for our trip, and the whole area is fantastic!

Mount Rushmore

We stayed one night while visiting Mount Rushmore. Cabin was small but enough for what we needed. Restaurant on site was very good. We ate both dinner and breakfast there and their portion sizes were good. My only complaint would be the bed in our room was too hard making it difficult for me to sleep.

Staff were excellent - incredibly friendly… thought the front desk associate was the owner even! Powder House is staying true to the Black Hills vibes, love the authenticity of the entire property, not just the room itself!

We saw good reviews online for the restaurant. They said it would be a shame to miss it. Wrong...The elk was tough. The vegetables served were a frozen veggies. What restaurant serves frozen vegetables? Poor quality food.
