Included breakfast was one of the best I’ve ever had. Rooms/bathroom were clean and updated and a little bigger than I imagined. Being nit picky, the bathroom door made a loud rough squeak right when closing and opening. The AC unit was loud, preventing us from leaving it on in the middle of the night to maintain a certain temperature. Parking could improve: there are huge trailer containers taking up almost half of the parking. The surrounding transient population is also a concern. I saw broken glass in the parking lot which tells me a car was broken into recently. Location was about 5-7 minutes down the freeway from Downtown Merced, which is closer to more supermarkets and food options. Overall, hotel was just right for our quick one night stay to visit UC Merced (about a 15 min drive).

Okay hotel (with issues) but sketchy area

A last minute funeral stay. The area was very sketchy! We had to drive approx 5 miles to find a restaurant in a decent area. The staff were as friendly as can be. The hotel in general was fine but the room needed upgrading. The bed was okay but the sofa was the most uncomfortable to sit on. The bathroom needed attention. The toilet handle would stick, the tub area had a little shelf that broke off previously. The shower head is fixed and was noticeably angled toward the side wall. Opening the bathroom door more than half way would hit the ceiling light! Can’t figure out how that happened! The free cooked breakfast was fine for a hotel free meal.

I didn't like how i paid for a certain room but they didn'thave that type of room because of remodeling and they didn't notify me and switched my room without letting me know so I didn't have time to see if I wanted to stay there or find a cheaper place. Then I spent about 15 to 20 minutes arguing with Expedia customer service telling me I didn't reserve the type of room i paid for. And I still don't know if the issue was resolved.

sad in Merced

usually Hampton Inn says quality right away. This did not have that. The location was obviously very dated, but the staff was pleasant and codial. The reception was extremely clean, but when I got to the room floor there was an offputting odor. the room did not have an odor and was clean, however no one ever came to change towels or freshen up during my stay (thus the 4 stars for eco friendly, code for no service) and there was very littly shampoo in the shower bottles. I had to run the water in the shower for at least 15 minutes before the water became tepid about 25 to get fully heated. if I had not booked through Hotels.com and prepaid there is no way I would have stayed here.
