Nice stay in Madrid

Nice, modern, clean hotel in an historical building. The service, lobby restaurant and breakfast buffet are all good. The location is very convenient as it is about a 5-minute walk to/from the train station, a couple of the major art museums, and Retiro Park. Plaza Mayor and most other city center attractions are about a 15-minute walk. Our room felt a little small and cramped, but I know this is common in Europe. We did enjoy the balcony. The hotel sits on a busy street, but we did not hear any noise from our room.

Great location, friendly staff, clean hotel, but exceptionally noisy. It is not far from the police station and sirens are frequent. We stayed here in November when the air conditioning was turned off (as is standard in many European countries) so we could not sleep with the window closed as it was too hot. We could not sleep with the window open as it was too noisy so we did not sleep much at all. The hotel was kind and comped our upgrade costs, but I would not stay here again unfortunately.
