Beware of the Smoke Alarm and Fire Engines that will come at the middle of the Night. My Father-in-Law had passed away 2 days before our stay. Our check-in was fine and the room was just adequate$$$. But. A Jerk a few doors away from us set off the Smoke Detector in his room. (Smoking Pot) Suddenly, at 3 AM, the Alarms in each and every room (ours) was blasting at Extremely High Decibels. We were terrified, got out of bed and onto the outer walkway (Freezing Temps). I called the emergency # and spoke to a live person (Keep in mind there are NO services, No One to help in this situation) The person on the service line told me that no one was on site and that the Fire Department was on the way. After 15-18 minutes of the Alarm (In our room) blasting at full tilt, the Fire Engines came rolling in and after 5 minutes or so, the alarms were turned off. Not a Great Nights Sleep after that wake-up. The crazy part of this story is that I called the Service # again the next day to inquire about the incident and the blasting alarms in my room and was given the contact for the Manager of the Hotel. I was told he would contact me. After a few emails, he (Paolo), told me he was in fact staying in the hotel, and was a couple of rooms next to the Smoking Offender (Who ran out, drove off while the Fire Dept and Police showed up, only to return once the authorities left. There was no fire. BEWARE of this Hotel and the Signs in the room about the Steam in the Bathroom setting off the Alarms.

Room was nice, but there were disturbances throughout both nights. On the first night, the fire alarm randomly went off (no fire occurred). It continued to sound for at least 30 minutes until the firemen showed up, in which my boyfriend and I were forced to drive away from the property due to the volume. The furnace also rattled very loudly during both nights.

Our stay was good. I love that what was probably once a run down motel was renovated into a modern, very nice motel. Room was clean, the beds were very comfortable, shower/bathroom was clean and modern and all amenities were there except for lotion. The room could use a small hotel frig. A coffee maker was supplied which was nice as I was able to make a cup of tea. I would definitely recommend staying at the Hi-Ho... also a great location, close to great restaurants and the University that we visited.

Room was clean enough. There were a bunch of guests being super noisy until after 10pm then road construction continued through the night on the access road outside the hotel and woke me up several times. The room seemed secure, but we added an additional travel lock to the door just because the keyless, contactless entry had me feeling a little wary. Television worked, did not try the coffee machine. Shower gets quite hot and room HVAC and heat were working fine. Carpet was quite worn in some spots, the sink was missing a drain plug so some upkeep is needed. The rooms apparently have very sensitive smoke detectors so they might get set off with a steamy shower according to signage- We did not experience this. We found breakfast at Andros Diner in Fairfield, CT before continuing our trip on the Merritt. Wouldn’t stay again just because of the noise.

Was the worst experience that I’ve had in a hotel being in Chill business I must’ve stayed in thousands of hotel rooms for my 50th anniversary. I thought it would be cool to stay in the hotel that we stayed in the night we got married. It turned out to be a complete nightmare room by a dumpster a heater the banged and howled all night long a TV that wouldn’t work. I only should not stay here you shouldn’t even drive by.
