Maybe we were just unlucky!!!

We changed rooms several times and there was something wrong with every one. When we walking into the first room it absolutely stank. A cross between stale cigarettes and mouldy damp. We were told it was just the air conditioner and given another room. This seemed ok until we went to go out for the evening and found the door did not lock.... on to room number 3. This did not stink and the door locked..... but the toilet was blocked. When we informed the rather miserable and unfriendly receptionist (she was already this way at check and not as a result of having to deal with our issues) she handed us a plunger and said to fix it ourselves. The whole hotel is a little shabby and smelt of wet dog. The bathroom was grimy and the bathroom door would not stay shut unless you wedged something under it. My other half went down to breakfast but there was not enough seating. He waited around for a free seat but by then there was no longer any hot food, so he gave up. Only positive was the man on reception at check out was very friendly and nice... so a total of 5 min good during the entire 2 night stay.
