Wonderful boutique hotel near Little Italy

Wonderful boutique hotel near Little Italy & Convention Ctr. Staff were polite, friendly, & welcoming. The bldg itself was originally the downtown YMCA in SD. The Guild & Marriot have re-purposed it beautifully. Continental breakfast was substantive and a nice touch!

Unparalleled excellence. From the very moment we set foot into the property, the staff was professional, cordial and treated everyone with the upmost class of hospitality. Truly a bar has been set by the un-matched warmth and service I experienced while staying here. The room was perfect and housekeeping was always so cordial. The hotel is nicely designed and the rooms have great linens and bathroom toiletries. We loved the cocktail bar (boy was it pricey!) Our stay was let down because the room faced the street and two of the 3 electric window blinds were broken so we couldn’t close the blind and couldn’t get blackout in the bedroom. The bathroom fitments (taps, shower head, soap dish) were flimsy and showed signs of wear and tear.

The smaller dark guy in the front desk was absolutely the worst. Lazy, lying about what rooms being open. Just horrible customer service. The young lady helped my wife and I with changing our room due to a bathroom issue in our previous one. Everyone else was great but him alone could’ve ruined the whole experience.

Got assigned a first floor room where you can hear all vehicular and pedestrians traffic. Terrible experience. The staff was nice and the room was. Lean and spacious, but we couldn’t sleep through all the outside noise. Very disappointing stay.

The property was nice. The staff varied greatly from cordial and helpful to very unfriendly and unhelpful (one female receptionist). Unfortunately we dealt with her 3times while there. She could not find our key from the valet and had us wait. Only to have another person help us and our car was in front the whole time. She was very unfriendly which is such a simple fix to be kind. She changed the experience for us.

Here's a simple pro and con list for those who want it short and sweet! Pros: Continental breakfast was included in the stay and was great. Bed was comfortable Shower got hot Easy to walk to Gaslamp District Staff was very nice Hotel was clean and comfortable Cons: Biggest disappointment for me was that I told the hotel it was my husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary when I made the reservation. They said they would do something special for us but we never heard back from them or had any special deliveries. First hotel to ever do this. Normally we get fruit or champagne or something special to look forward to. The rooms are SMALL (like squeeze by the bed small), but the bathroom was big enough to fit a bed + in it. The drip coffee is awful. If you need coffee in the morning, go to a coffee shop. I look forward to my morning coffee, so this was a bummer. No pool here. I had an absolute wonderful time. Valet was quick and easy. Staff was amazing room was clean. The area of hotel was perfect walking distance from Seaport Village, little Italy and USS Midway museum. Easy access to freeway. I would definitely be back here to stay.

My husband and I LOVED The Guild and will definitely stay here again. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the hotel was was a dream; from the beautiful architecture and history to the comfortable room and bedding. I would recommend staying here 100 percent.

I liked the choice of toiletries that they offered. I like the building's architecture. The hallway rugs can use a good cleaning and rooms can be changed to hardwood to fit the look they were going for
